Pregnant & waking up with puffy eyelids?
🤰👀 You’re not alone, mum-to-be.
Mild, both-sided eye swelling (bengkak mata) is common in pregnancy due to hormones and normal fluid retention—especially later in the day. Most cases are harmless, but some need quick attention.
What you can do at home
• Cold compress 5–10 minutes, 2–3×/day.
• Sleep with head slightly elevated; try left-side sleeping.
• Hydrate well, go easy on salty foods.
• Give your eyes “blink breaks,” especially in air-cond or during screen time; use preservative-free artificial tears.
• Contact lens wearers: shorten wear time or switch to glasses for comfort.
• If it’s a stye (ketumbit): warm compress 5–10 minutes, 2–4×/day, gentle lid hygiene—don’t squeeze.
When to seek urgent care
• Sudden swelling with severe headache, visual changes (blur/double vision), nausea, or pain under the ribs—could be pre-eclampsia. Please see your obstetrician or go to Emergency.
• One-sided painful redness, fever, reduced vision, or swelling after injury.
• Swelling that persists >48–72 hours or keeps coming back.
