Plaque is a soft, sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth. When it's not cleaned thoroughly — especially along the gumline and in between teeth — it begins to harden due to minerals in your saliva.

🔄 This hardening process typically begins within 24 to 72 hours, turning soft plaque into calculus, also known as tartar. Once tartar forms, it can't be removed by brushing or flossing — it needs to be professionally cleaned through scaling.
