Patellofemoral syndrome, often referred to as Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) or Runner’s Knee, is a condition characterized by pain in the front of the knee, around the patella (kneecap).
It commonly affects individuals who engage in activities that involve repetitive knee movements, such as running, jumping, or squatting. However, it can also occur in individuals who do not participate in such activities.
Causes and Risk Factors:
1.Overuse: Repetitive stress on the knee joint from activities like running or jumping. 2.Misalignment of the Patella: When the patella doesn’t move properly along the femur (thigh bone), it can cause irritation or inflammation.
3.Weak or Imbalanced Muscles: Weak quadriceps or imbalanced muscles around the knee may contribute to abnormal tracking of the patella.
4.Tightness in Muscles or Tendons: Tight hamstrings, calves, or iliotibial (IT) band can affect knee mechanics.
5.Previous Injury: Past knee injuries, such as sprains or fractures, may increase the risk.
