Along with Dr Feisul of MOH and fellow co-authors, our team recently published this article on the cost of managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Malaysia. For year 2011, we estimated it would cost the nation RM 2.04 billion. However, this cost could be as high as RM 3.52 billion. No small amount. Food for thought.

An article on publication of results of clinical trials... what seemed most interesting was this paragraph that said industry sponsored research is more likely to get published than tax-payer funded research: ".... experiments sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry had a much better track record than university experiments funded by the National Institutes of Health or other agencies."

Federal law requires publicly funded medical researchers to promptly report the results of many experimental treatments. But few are doing so, a review shows, and patients may be hurt.
