I am working mother…. I don’t have enough time spending with my daughter.
I work from 8 to 5 pm. I reach home at 7 pm. My son already sleeping when I’m home.
What can you do? How can you solve this problem? TIME is a variable in this problem and it can be changed.
HOW?
The best time to help/facilitate your child’s language is through his/her daily routine activities.
So, why we must blame time? It is the matter of quality time.
WHEN TO START?
Now
WHAT TO DO?
Here are some of the tips….
1: Get chatty with your child.
The words parents speak to children make up the language “input” that children need to learn new words and ideas. The more input parents give, the more opportunities children have to learn on how to express themselves and understand what others are saying.
Talk through their routines:
1) When washing hand: “We are washing our hands. Come, wash wash wash. O oohh, the dirt is here. Wash here. Wash wash wash”.
2) When getting dressed:
Mother: Let’s wear shoes.
Child: (Looking at the mother/ looking around)
Mother: Look! Mummy is wearing shoes.
Child: Shoes (here, child observes and listen to the mother’s action)
3) When taking brushing teeth:
Mother: Time to brush your teeth.
Child: (take her toothbrush)
Mother: Wahh. That’s good. You have your brush.
(Here, the mother assist the child in brushing the teeth)
Child: (do the action)
Mother: Now, Sara is brushing teeth. (Narrate the action)
* Your language stimulation depends on your child’s language level. Is your child at the single word level? Or does he/she start combining words?
How rushing you are, how busy you are, do not ignore your precious child’s language development. You are the main contributing factors for your child to learn the language.
