This time last week I was still living my African dream - spending days in the safari immersed in the wild, ticking off bucketlist and chasing golden sunsets.
Since I got back, my patients have been full of questions. ‘Were the toilets clean?’ ‘Was the food okay?’
Truth is, the toilets were spotless. I was most anxious about the lodgings, but they ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. Stargazing under a canopy of stars, wine in hand surrounded by the warmth of a campfire.. Not a single mosquito or insect ‘bug’ged me.
I wasn’t the biggest food critic/foodie. We had all our meals prepared by the lodge we stayed at, the wide range of variety ( Western + Kenyan) dishes definitely spoilt us so badly I didn’t have a chance to open my Mamee cup noodle.
What truly moved me, though, was the hospitality. Even in a tipping culture, I was blown away by the level of service, kindness, and attention to detail. I felt blessed to be there - to witness such beauty and to give back in whatever way I could, knowing I had the privilege to do so.
