Preeclampsia can develop gradually or suddenly, and early recognition is essential for the safety of both mother and baby.
Affected mothers may suffer with:
📍Severe headache
📍Changes in vision, such as blurred vision, flashing lights, or sensitivity to light
📍Upper abdominal pain
📍Nausea after mid-pregnancy
📍Difficulty breathing
Regular check-ups may help confirm the following signs:
📍High blood pressure (more than 140/90 mmHg)
📍Swelling in the face, hands, or feet (edema)
📍Proteinuria- protein in urine
These symptoms may vary from one woman to another. Some may not notice any symptoms at all, which is why regular prenatal check-ups are crucial. If a pregnant mother develops symptoms of preeclampsia, the doctor may order blood test to check organ failure of kidney, liver or clotting.
If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
