Earwax is naturally produced from several glands in the outer part of the ear. When earwax is in the ear for long periods, its color will start to darken. The longer the wax remains in the ear, the darker it will appear.

In most people, earwax will naturally exit from the ears. However, if the glands produce too much earwax, it can build up in the ear canal and become clogged or impacted. It can cause various symptoms such as earaches, hearing loss, tinnitus or ear infection.

Excessive earwax can happen in any ages. Smaller or unusual ear canals (especially for children) can make it very difficult for the wax to get out naturally from their ear canal 😫👂🏻

Wax removal is most safely done by trained hearing care professional/ENT doctor during an office visit. Trying to remove the wax by sticking an ear picking tool into the ear canal might end up causing the situation worse and risk damaging the eardrum ‼️
