✨ How Much Weight Should You Lose Per Week? ✨

When it comes to weight loss, safe and sustainable is always better.

✅ The sweet spot: 0.5–1% of your body weight per week
This keeps your fat loss steady, preserves muscle, and prevents your metabolism from slowing down.

⚖️ Why not faster?
Losing more than ~1% per week (>1.5–2 kg for most people) increases the risk of muscle loss, nutrient deficiencies, gallstones, and rebound weight gain.

🐢 Why not slower?
Losing less than 0.5% per week is still safe — and sometimes better if you’re focusing on lifestyle change, strength training, or gut healing. But for many, too-slow results can feel less motivating.

📊 Example:
• 80kg → Safe loss = 0.4–0.8kg per week
• 100kg → Safe loss = 0.5–1.0kg per week

💡 Functional Medicine Insight:
• On GLP-1 therapy (Semaglutide/Tirzepatide), some may lose faster initially, but we still keep within the 0.5–1% range to protect metabolism.

👀 You’ve probably seen the headlines: “GLP1 medications can cause blindness!”
But here’s the fact ⬇️

✅ A new JAMA study looked at 275 million patient records.
➡️ People with diabetes who take GLP-1s had:

A slightly higher chance of being diagnosed with early eye changes (retinopathy)

❌ NO increased risk of blindness or vision-threatening damage

✨ If they already had eye disease, their risk of blindness was actually 23% lower

⚠️ Important reminder:
People with diabetes already face a much higher risk of eye problems — with or without these medicines. That’s why regular eye check-ups are so important.

💡 Bottom line:
GLP-1 medicines have no direct link to cause blindness.
In fact, they may protect your vision while also helping with weight, blood sugar, and heart health.

For the current issue, investigation is in early phase and more data is yet to be collected

👩‍⚕️ Always talk to your doctor, and don’t skip your annual eye exam especially if you have diabetes or at high risk.

Today is World Prediabetes Day — a reminder that prediabetes often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Most people only check their blood sugar or HbA1c when screening for prediabetes.
While these are important, they don’t tell the whole story.

Here’s why:

Blood Sugar (Fasting Glucose) – Shows your sugar level at the moment of the test.

HbA1c – Reflects your average blood sugar over the past 3 months.

Fasting Insulin – Detects insulin resistance years before sugar levels become abnormal.

High insulin is often the earliest warning sign that your body is struggling to keep sugar under control — even if your HbA1c looks “normal.”

By looking at all three markers, you can spot trouble early and take steps to reverse it before it becomes type 2 diabetes.

A full-picture approach is much needed for the best prevention and personalised health plans.
