The Anatomy of Romance: The "Moon" Inside Your Knee 🌙

To a Physiotherapist, anatomy isn't just about bones and tissues—it’s full of hidden poetry.

Tucked within the narrow gap between your thigh bone and shin bone are two crescent-shaped pieces of fibrocartilage. Because they look exactly like the sliver of a waxing moon, we call them the Meniscus.

It isn’t just a simple cushion; it is the knee’s most tender "buffer."

1️⃣ The All-Weather Shock Absorber
Whether you’re sprinting, jumping, or simply taking a stroll, this "moon" is silently absorbing the impact. It prevents bone-on-bone friction, acting as your body’s own built-in high-end protective gear.

2️⃣ Why Does the "Moon" Break? 💔
Damage often happens in that split second when the body turns, but the foot stays planted.
Think of a sudden pivot in badminton or a sharp cut on the basketball court. When that instantaneous twisting force exceeds its limit, a crack appears in the moon.

3️⃣ Its "Cold and Aloof" Nature (The Science Bit)
The meniscus has a very limited blood supply (especially in the inner "white zone").
This makes it incredibly resilient yet stubborn. Unlike your skin, which heals quickly through blood circulation, once the meniscus is torn, it struggles to repair itself. It is like a piece of fine porcelain—once damaged, it requires immense patience and care to manage.

💡 A Physio’s Advice (The "Protect the Moon" Plan):
Build Your Armor: Strengthen your quadriceps (front of the thigh) and glutes. When your muscles are powerful, they take the pressure off the meniscus.

Choose the Right "Partner": Whether running or playing court sports, wear shoes with excellent cushioning. They act as the first line of defense for your knees.

Listen for "SOS" Signals: If your knee clicks, feels like it’s "locking," or suddenly won't straighten, that is the "moon" calling for help. It’s tired—seek professional assessment and rehabilitation.

在大腿骨与小腿骨的缝隙间,藏着两片弯弯的纤维软骨。
因为形状像极了初五的月牙,我们叫它:半月板 (Meniscus) 🌙

1️⃣ 它是全天候的“减震卫士”

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is a critical stabilizing structure inside the knee. Its primary roles include:

✔ Preventing the shinbone (tibia) from sliding out in front of the thighbone (femur).
✔ Controlling pivots and sudden stops.
✔ Maintaining stability during sports and movement.

⚠ Common Injury Scenarios:
Sudden stops or pivots in basketball.

Abrupt changes in direction in badminton.

Falls while skiing.

Landing awkwardly from a jump during high-intensity sports.

📍 Levels of ACL Injury:
Grade 1: Mild stretch (Micro-tears).

Grade 2: Partial tear.

Grade 3: Complete rupture.

💡 Is surgery always necessary?
Not necessarily.

If you have high physical demands (younger athletes or frequent sports players), a doctor may recommend reconstruction surgery.
