I am Amoijamu.
Firstly let me introduce myself, I am Amanda Tan or more fondly known as Amoijamu. I am in my 40’s and I am a mother to 2 beautiful daughters. My youngest is going to be 8 and my eldest is going to turn 17 this year. Am sure many would ask why the name Amoijamu? Let me start up my time machine so I can give you all some insight of how I actually got my name Amoijamu and what drives my passion in Jamu.
It all started during my secondary years. I was facing some very challenging times as my acnes was really booming out of control. Really painful and my face was always glowing red…..yes…red…lol. , As I grew up in Penang. I mixed around a lot with Malays and Indonesians community after schooling hours. I will visit my friends in their homes. That was how one of friend’s mom introduced me to Jamus. She explained on the benefits and how it will help my volcanic acne skin, At that time, I couldn’t be bothered, as long as you tell me its good and it’ll help me. I will gobble it down. I have seen many dermatologist during those days and I was even prescribed Hormonal Pills as well as Birth Control Pills to control my acnes at that age. My friend’s mom knew my suffering and told me she can help but her only condition to me was to visit her every day for the next 10days and I did. To my surprised, I can see improvements on my skin right after the 5th day and every single day after that. I was bought by Jamus at that very moment. After graduating from Hotel Management and later on years as a Certified Personal Trainer cm Wellness & Nutrition’s Consultant, I still couldn’t see my passion, all along I had been practicing Jamu and I was even introducing Jamus to my PT lady clients as well. So one day I thought to myself, I want to do Jamu and that’s my passion! My friend’s mom became my first guru when I was around 19yo. Along the way I met many highly knowledgeable gurus which were willing to take me under their wings. It was my 3rd guru that gave me my name Amoijamu. He was telling some of his customer to look for me when he was either too busy or out on a journey to the forest to collect herbs. He would say “Pergi jumpa Amoi yg jual jamu itu, dia boleh tolong mu” hence one day he told me; why not just use the name Amoijamu. And I agreed! I didn’t look back from then onwards. To be a good and competent Jamu consultant, it’s a lifelong learning journey. Even after learning from so many gurus for so many years, I am still pursuing my postgraduate on Traditional Healing Herbs. I do contribute writings about Jamus to online portals and hardcopy magazines when I have the time or as in when I receives a request for one. I mainly contribute to Mingguan wanita (Malay version of Women’s Weekly) and I was recently highlighted by RTM and they did a short documentary about Amoijamu and her story.
I got to end my intro now, That is the most compressed version which I can write just so my story wouldn’t bored you guys . Just to give you mommies some idea of who am I and what I do. Please feel free to contact me and don’t be shy or you can check out some of my links below to know more about me or to watch the short RTM documentary about Amoijamu.
