Puchong serves as a residential town for three major cities, Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya. New townships, such as Bandar Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Puchong Hartamas, Puchong Utama, Puchong Prima, Bandar Bukit Puchong, Saujana Puchong and Bandar Puteri Puchong, are sprouting from the once-abandoned lands, former plantations and cleared-forest areas, contributing to the population boom witnessed in Puchong. At an estimate, Puchong has a population of about 335,419 (the largest township is Puchong Jaya with a population of about 39,473). Governance::
Puchong is under the jurisdiction of two local authorities, that is the Subang Jaya Municipal Council in the northern part of Puchong and the Sepang Municipal Council in the southern part of Puchong. There is a wet market called Puteri Mart at Bandar Puteri beside the MBA Stadium and the Town Park where residents can shop for their groceries. Residents of Puchong can also do their shopping in Tesco, IOI Mall (which has a multiplex and bowling alley), Giant, Jusco, Puchong Parade and Puchong Plaza shopping malls. Bank of China (M) Bhd opened its 6th branch in Malaysia at Tower 2, PFCC, Bandar Puteri Puchong in 2012. IOI Boulevard is one of the business centres located here with retail and office units. A similar project by SP Setia called SetiaWalk Puchong has been partially completed, and though it look quiet from outside, but when you park in the basement which is the only way to access the shops in the center of the building apart from walking, there are many shops open inside. Block C of the building has not been completed yet. Block E of SetiaWalk (also known as SetiaWalk Mall) has a gym (Celebrity Fitness), a game station (Escape Room), a TGV cinema and a multiplex which houses a Subway outlet. Properties in Puchong::
Major property developers in Puchong are IOI Properties, I&P Properties (focusing in Kinrara), Talam, Plenitude, Malton as well as many others. Before the rapid development and commercialization of Puchong, there were only a handful of residential developments which comprises mostly low to medium-cost apartments as well as terrace houses. By 2010, luxurious condominiums, semi detached houses and bungalows are a common sight within the area. These high end properties are mostly located in Bandar Puteri and Bandar Kinrara. The property prices in Puchong have increased tremendously as more people are migrating into the area due to the an abundance of amenities offered as well as being a safe and comfortable housing area. Furthermore, it was recently announced that there will be eleven (11) MRT stations planned for the township. The proposed stations are Bukit Kinrara, Giant Bandar Kinrara, Taman Perindustrian Kinrara, Puchong IOI Mall, Puchong Tesco Hypermarket & SP Setia Walk, Rakan Muda Sports Complex, Puchong Perdana, Puchong Perdana, Taman Puchong Prima, and Taman Puchong Permai.
