Applications for the *2026 Autism Learning Fee Subsidy under JKM are now open from 15 May to 15 July 2026.*

Eligible Malaysian children with Autism under 18 years old who hold a JKM OKU card can receive a one-off RM1,000 subsidy to support learning and early intervention programmes, subject to household income and enrolment at a certified learning centre.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to apply and make use of this opportunity to support their children’s development and future.

🌟治療新視角:探索自閉症人士的觀點🌟
🔹神經多元(neurodivergent)人士與神經典型(neurotypical)人士在互動模式、興趣及解決問題的方式上存在差異。以自閉症人士為例,他們可能對某些特定興趣非常專注,這並不代表他們比其他人差或有缺陷,反而可以視這為他們的獨特優勢。
🔹過去有關自閉症治療的研究多集中於醫護人員、教育工作者和家長的觀點,往往沒有深入了解自閉症人士本身對治療的看法。
🔹今次和大家分享的研究是出自Schuck et al. (2024),他們運用問卷調查形式去收集自閉症成人對自閉症的看法。少少題外話,他們的研究團隊包括自閉症及非自閉症學者,好處在於非自閉症的學者可能可以從自身角度提出創新見解,而這些可能是非自閉症研究者無法想到的,進而提升研究的實用性和影響力。
🔹研究結果中最常被提及的概念是雙重同理心現象(double empathy problem; Milton, 2012),即神經典型者與自閉症者之間缺乏深入理解。
🔹過去的治療模式主要側重於讓自閉症者學習神經典型者的社交規範,而鮮少期望神經典型者去理解自閉症者的溝通方式。
🔹於是有些受訪者提出:「為什麼只有自閉症人士需要變得有彈性?為什麼神經典型者不學習如何與自閉症者互動並尊重他們?」他們指這種單向期望既不公平,也不利於促進真正的理解與接納。
🔹他們補充,治療師可以向自閉症人士解釋神經典型者之間的社會規範,將這些技能定位為「與神經典型人士相處時可能需要學習的事」,而非「每個人都應該知道和要做的事」,換句話說,自閉症人士應可以自由選擇遵循這些規範與否。
🔹部分受訪者提出採用強項導向的方法(strengths-based approach),允許孩子追求自己的興趣,還可利用這些興趣來實現學習目標。他們指「如果孩子能做自己喜歡的事,他們會感到快樂,生活會變得有意義。」。
🔹當談及自我刺激行為(stimming)時,許多受訪者認為這些行為是自我調節或與人溝通的方式。有些傳統治療常試圖教導自閉症人士模仿神經典型者的行為,要他們停止這些自我刺激行為,但其實要他們強行壓抑可能會造成焦慮或其他情緒問題。
🔹若出現危險行為,我們確實需要加以處理,但真正有效且具人性化的干預,應該聚焦於理解行為背後的根本原因,而非僅僅改變表面的行為。危險行為通常並非單純因無聊或好玩而產生,其背後往往涉及感官過載或溝通困難等問題,因此重點應該放在解決這些根本原因。
🔹與其簡單地要求他們「不要這樣做」、「不能那樣做」,我們可以嘗試調整環境,支持他們自我調節。例如,在不影響或傷害他人的前提下讓他們以自己喜歡的方式表達,或者提供替代選擇如減壓玩具,來幫助他們緩解壓力/
🔹最後,值得我們深思的是:在與神經多元人士的互動中,我們的目標是教導他們學會服從,還是鼓勵他們發揮自身神經特性的優勢,去實現最大的潛力?

Emergent literacy skills begin long before a child learns to read.

Book exposure and shared reading habits help build language, attention, vocabulary, imagination, and later reading comprehension skills, especially important for all children.

PPAS Bangi is FREE for public entrance, and membership registration is fast. Each IC number can borrow up to 8 books monthly.

Sometimes, a simple shared reading routine can become a lifelong gift for a child.

Pusat Perkhidmatan Autisme (PPA) Bangi merupakan inisiatif KPWKM di bawah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) dengan kerjasama Pertubuhan Sukarela Kebajikan (PSK) yang berperanan sebagai pusat sehenti yang menyediakan perkhidmatan seperti pengesanan awal autisme, terapi multidisiplin serta program sokongan kepada ibu bapa dan komuniti.

PPA yang bakal beroperasi tidak lama lagi di Pusat Latihan Perindustrian dan Pemulihan (PLPP) Bangi ini dilengkapi dengan pelbagai fasiliti dan kemudahan bagi memperkasa perkembangan kanak-kanak autisme secara holistik. Antaranya:

A simple story can reveal so much more than we think.

In a speech-language therapy session, we explored a narrative sample using something meaningful to the client— AI-generated pictures featuring his own photo. With visual supports and a familiar context, he began to retell the story step by step in his own words.

From just 1–3 words per idea… to building a clearer story structure.

Every client’s journey is different.
