“Why my RTK self-test shows negative results, but RT-PCR positive?”



While the rapid RTK antigen detection showed comparable sensitivity and specificity with the real-time RT-PCR assay, there are still room for this so-called ‘false negative’ results.



This probably caused by a number of factors. Apart from the inappropriate method or inadequate sample collection, the timing of when the sample is collected is also one of them. 



If you’re tested during the incubation period, the RTK might not be able to detect the antigen as the viral load is still low.



For vaccinated people, they might develop fast immune response which helps suppress the virus for a day or two.



With that said, it is important to remember that the RTK self-test kit is designed only as a simple detection method for mass screening in order to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
