⭐️HOW TO KEEP BABIES SAFE WHEN SLEEPING⭐️
Research tells us that a safe sleep environment can help reduce your baby’s risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Here are some ways you can help create a SAFE sleep environment for your baby:
✅ Put your baby on their BACK for all naps during daytime and at night
Some parents worry that babies will choke when they’re on their backs. But your baby’s airway anatomy and their gag reflex will keep that from happening.
✅ Room share with your baby
Room sharing means keeping your baby’s sleep area in the same room ,but NOT in the same bed. I would usually advice placing your baby’s crib or bassinet close and right beside your bed, so you’ll be sleeping on different surfaces. This makes it easier for you to feed, comfort and watch your baby.
The AAP recommends room sharing because it can decrease the risk of SIDS by as much as 50% and it’s much safer than bed sharing.
❌ Keep soft objects such as soft toys, pillow, blankets out of your baby’s sleep area.
These objects may look cute when being placed at your baby’s sleeping area, however it can increase your baby’s risk of entrapment, suffocation or strangulation. These objects include pillows and pillow-like toys, quilts, comforters, non-fitted sheets, blankets, toys, bumper pads.
✅ Breastfeed your baby
Evidence shows that human milk reduces the risk of SIDS. The longer you give your baby breast milk, the more protection it gives. 👍👍
✅ Keep your home smoke-free
Presence of smoke in your baby’s environment is a significant risk factor for SIDS. This includes va**ng too.
👉 Don’t hesitate to talk with your pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns about the safety of your baby’s sleep environment.
