Kita manage risiko.

Recently, I read the outpouring of a mother whose child has CP, expressing her sadness because the PDK no longer accepts children with CP. I don’t know what justification was used to make this decision. Who were the committee members involved in stopping all of this without providing a more effective alternative solution? Instead, these children were rejected outright. Although PDK is very basic, at the very least it provides social impact for these special children—especially for those with physical challenges, regardless of their diagnosis.

We are now in the year 2026. Everything is so advanced, yet sadly Malaysia is still lagging behind when it comes to the rights of special children—especially those with physical disabilities. It is as if they have no future potential at all, no value at all. That should not be the case. Every individual has their own potential. They have their own space and needs, their own purpose and value.

Therapy is expensive, and it places a heavy economic burden on families. In the Klang Valley, an income of RM10,000 is just barely enough if you have to cover therapy costs every month—and even then, families struggle during certain months, while only being able to afford minimal therapy. This is the reality that many people do not understand.

On top of that, there are hardly any childcare centres willing to accept children with physical disabilities. In the end, either the mother or father is forced to quit their job to care for the child full-time, further impacting the family’s finances. Hiring a helper is not cheap either.

These are children who clearly need help and support. Their physical challenges are evident—why are they not given attention? These children have great potential and can eventually contribute to the country’s economy. People celebrate when they become graduates, yet the reality is it was a struggle. Many more could reach that level if they were given proper opportunities and stimulation from an early age—but they are being neglected.

Assalamu’alaikum and selamat pagi semua.
Hari ni kita nak cerita sikit pasal therapist dan OKU. Saya seorang physiotherapists. Dah berkhidmat selama 21 tahun.

Kenapa bersungguh sangat? Sebab ini adalah satu tanggungjawab. We live on this world for a purpose.

Sampaikan kadang2 saya takut dilabel penunggang kesusahan org lain. Bak kata coach saya, nak tolong ke nak untung? Kita jadi serba salah.

Today, I chose to write about humanity, rights, and basic needs. All of this revolves around something I’m honestly tired of having to repeat—OKU (disabled) parking lots. We tend to focus only on parking spaces, but the real issue is accessibility as a whole.

When I arrived at the centre later that day, my eyes immediately caught the neighbour’s renovation dumpster (tong roro). It had been placed at the empty lot next door since last week, but suddenly on Monday it was moved onto the OKU parking space. This OKU parking in front of my centre has been an issue for years. It even went viral before. Yet it keeps happening again and again. This shows how lacking our public education and enforcement really are on this issue.

I immediately called the police. The officer asked me to check with the JMB since it might not be under their jurisdiction, but he still tried to help. Alhamdulillah, even though it wasn’t his department, he still wanted to do something. Then I spotted an MBSA enforcement van. I waved, and thankfully the officer stopped. I rushed over and explained the situation. They listened.

At first, the officer told me to lodge a complaint through SISPAA. But I told him, “I’ve already complained last year." "How long do we need to wait? The parking is needed today.” I have patients who need this space for their children with disabilities. He explained that technically, it's not his department—it should be the unit that handles parking offences.

“But where are they?” I told him.

Still, he patiently listened to my frustrations. Two female officers and one male officer then went to ask the company to move the dumpster. I truly respect them for acting out of humanity, even when it was outside their jurisdiction—and for listening to my grumbling.

But this shows how weak the enforcement is for OKU parking. I was even advised to purchase my own parking lot to make it easier for my patients. For business purposes, maybe. But wheelchair users need larger parking spaces. Regular spaces are too small and have no ramps.

This isn’t just about the one parking spot here—all OKU parking lots need proper attention. If local councils can consistently patrol and summon unpaid parking, why can’t they monitor or summon the shops, cars, or motorcycles blocking OKU spaces?

How long will this go on? It saddens me. We build towering skyscrapers, we celebrate high-tech innovation everywhere—but we fall behind in the most basic aspects.

We study overseas, bring home degrees from prestigious universities, but when it comes to OKU parking—“It’s okay, just for a while.” Until when? We think we are progressing as a developed nation, but in reality, we are regressing as human beings.

Wallahualam.

May this serve as a reminder.

Recently, a young couple brought their child for an assessment session at Tender Touch. A young pair with an adorable premature baby. As usual—my “work hazard”—I can’t resist cute babies. I love meeting parents who are excited and eager to learn about their baby’s development. Their curiosity makes me excited to share too.

Anyone who has ever talked to me might realize that I kind of “switch on” whenever I talk about baby development—about early intervention during the earliest stages of growth. A baby’s development, especially in the first two years, really needs close attention. It’s a stage we absolutely cannot wait and see for too long.

A baby’s development is like an art within science itself. Every stage has its story, its movements, its purpose, and its own needs. Every movement builds sensory processing, every movement builds strength, every movement builds connection, and every movement brings function. There is no single stage in a baby’s development that is meaningless.

I once had a parent who was a medical doctor. She became excited when she saw how I arranged the goals for teaching her child to roll (supine–prone–supine). I broke the journey into 10 stages. She said it made her realize how to achieve even one developmental milestone, a baby must go through many smaller stages. And to identify these stages, you need to be attentive and understand what is being built and experienced at each point.

Once we understand this, then we can be confident that every stage and every component of movement has its own role and function. That’s why it’s better to seek expert advice whenever there are concerns about a child’s development—so that together, as a community, we can support every child, whether they have a medical diagnosis or not. Early intervention starts from birth.

May this be useful.

Mcm biasala work hazard saya, tgk budak comel sgt. Saya s**a bila jumpa parents yang teruja dan semangat nak tau tentang perkembangan bayi. Curiosity mereka buat saya teruja jugak nak cerita.

Semoga bermanfaat
