We are truly sad and sorry that we have not been able to serve you with chiropractic care since 1st June 2021.
In Malaysia, the chiropractic profession is under the purview of the Ministry of Health’s Traditional and Complementary (T&CM) Division.
On 1st June 2021, the National Security Council decided to exclude all T&CM services from the list of essential services in Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan.
On 5th July 2021, the NSC decided to allow T&CM services to operate, BUT in their updated SOP, practitioners are NOT allowed to have physical interaction and physical contact with patients during Phase 1. Furthermore, most chiropractic centres (including us) were not granted approval by MITI to reopen.
Since the beginning of NRP, the Association of Chiropractic Malaysia (ACM) and fellow colleagues in the profession have been working tirelessly to appeal for our rights to provide chiropractic care again. We hope that the NSC and Ministry of Health will amend the SOP as soon as possible.
We agree with our frustrated patients that there is very little practical logic as to why physiotherapists are allowed to operate but chiropractors are not. The only reason we can think of is because physiotherapists are under the purview of the Ministry of Health’s Allied Health Division, whereas chiropractors are under the purview of the MOH’s Traditional & Complementary Medicine Division.
If you do come across anyone in Malaysia who is providing chiropractic care at this moment in time, we can confidently say that they are most likely:-
(1) not a qualified chiropractor registered with the ACM or MOH’s T&CM Division
(2) blatantly and irresponsibly flouting NSC’s official SOP
(3) illegally provided false information to MITI in order to obtain approval to operate their business
We hope to be able to serve you as soon as we possibly can.
Sincerely,
Ricky Lau
