A case of diastema closure with composite!

What is diastema? Diastema is a gap between upper front teeth. It can be caused by various factors including size of the teeth in relative to the jaw, habits of thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, lip sucking, gum disease in certain cases. Patient may have an asthetic concern of the gap present at the front teeth. It may also lead to serious problems such as cavities, gum disease and areas of plaque/calculus build up 🥴

It can be corrected with a simple filling with composite to close the gap! Patient was indeed very happy & satisfied with the result 🥰

‘Doktor, gigi saya patah makan nasi tadi. Berdenyut2 dan sensitive sangat!! ‘

A 54 years old female came yesterday night complaining a complicated crown fractured tooth #23 while eating rice. Pulp was exposed and patient started to feel very sensitive and pulsating pain. because the clinic was almost closed, a temporary GIC filling was placed on top of the exposed pulp to reduce sensitivity.
This morning, Root canal treatment was initiated. fresh pulp tissue was taken out. Because there is poor amount of tooth structure left, a fibre glass post was placed after completion of root canal treatment to withstand lateral excursion/forces. A 4mm GP was left inside the canal before post cementation. Layering composite build up was done and patient will be reviewed until the next appointment for a crown.

Would really appreciate advices, tips & feedbacks. Cheers

Gigi kekal mempunyai 32 batang. Antaranya adalah 8 gigi kacip (Incisor), 4 gigi taring (Canine), 8 gigi geraham kecil (Premolar) dan 12 geraham (Molar) dan juga 4 gigi geraham bongsu.
