91,000 calls for help in a single year.
That’s the number of cases received by Talian Heal in 2025, according to Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).
When I first saw the number, I felt… conflicted.
Part of me felt hopeful.
Because it means more Malaysians are becoming brave enough to say, “I need help.”
For many years, mental health was something people kept quiet about. Today, more people are willing to reach out.
But another part of me felt worried.
Because behind every one of those 91,000 calls is a real person — someone feeling overwhelmed, anxious, lost, or exhausted by life.
And what worries me even more is a pattern we are beginning to see:
the age of those seeking help is getting younger.
Teenagers.
Young adults.
Students who are supposed to be discovering the world — but are already struggling to carry its weight.
This makes me wonder:
Are we becoming more aware as a society…
or are we also becoming more overwhelmed?
Perhaps the numbers are telling us both stories at the same time.
Awareness is rising — and that is good.
But the emotional pressure people face today is also real.
So the question for all of us is not just about statistics.
It is about responsibility.
What more can we do — as educators, parents, leaders, and mental health professionals — to support the next generation?
Because the future of a nation is not only built by intelligence or technology.
It is built by people who are emotionally supported, psychologically resilient, and not afraid to ask for help.
And maybe the most important thing we can do today
is to make sure no one feels they have to struggle alone.
