with - EMERGENCY MAJOR BURN SURGERY

Tonight we have a super-emergency major burn injury for a 30 percent TBSA ( Total Burn Surface Area ) FLAME BURN involving his face, both arms and both legs.

The explosion happened while the patient was working offshore in a ship and he was promptly transferred via ambulance to our centre from a government hospital for specialist burn care.

The government centres with Plastic and BURN Surgeons are unfortunately at full capacity due to the current situation.

This is the first step for the patient, as he will need many more debridement and burn Reconstruction Surgeries.

“Not all tummy tucks are the same. Here’s a quick guide!”
Types of Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tighten the underlying muscles. It is often sought after weight loss, pregnancy, or aging, to restore a flatter, firmer abdominal contour. Depending on a patient’s needs, different types of abdominoplasty may be performed:

1. Full Abdominoplasty

The most common type.

Involves an incision across the lower abdomen (hip to hip) and around the navel.

Excess skin and fat are removed, abdominal muscles are tightened, and the belly button is repositioned.

Suitable for patients with significant skin laxity and muscle weakness.

2. Mini Abdominoplasty

A less invasive option with a smaller incision just above the p***c area.

Focuses on the lower abdomen below the navel.

No navel repositioning is usually required.

Best for patients with mild skin sagging or a small “pooch.”

3. Extended Abdominoplasty

A longer incision that extends beyond the hips, addressing the abdomen, flanks, and sometimes the lower back.

Ideal for patients with massive weight loss who have excess tissue around the waistline.

4. Fleur-de-lis Abdominoplasty

Involves both a horizontal and vertical incision, removing skin in two directions.

Used in cases of extreme skin excess, particularly after major weight loss surgery.

5. Circumferential Abdominoplasty (Belt Lipectomy)

A 360-degree procedure around the waistline.

Removes excess tissue from the abdomen, hips, lower back, and buttocks.

Often performed on patients who have had massive weight loss.

A Shout-out to my youngest sister Wan Suzanna Maria, a practising lawyer currently with Azim, Tunku Fariq and Wong advocate and solicitor.

She has a full degree and work briefly as a medical doctor before pursuing her degree and masters in law.

With her special interest in medicolegal law, this put suzanna in a very unique position as one of a very few unicorn in the legal fraternity with a very deep understanding of the complex medical terminologies and technicalities.

In addition to this, her elder siblings are all medical consultants from different specialties whom are ever willing to give out advise to her 24 hours a day :).

I am a Plastic Surgeon with expertise in cosmetic, burn injuries, wound complications and scar care. We have a Nephrologist, 2 Dermatologists and a Pathologist plus our spouses who are Family Medicine specialists. Add to this to the endless list of our friends from multiple other fields, getting an expert witness will never be an issue.

Looking forward to doing our parts to contribute to the betterment of the legal services in Malaysia.

We had an excellent sharing session yesterday with the doctors from Klinik Ajwa chain of clinics in Shah Alam.
I gave a talk from Plastic Surgery perspective on "Management of Acid and Alkali Burn" and Dr Syazween delivered her lecture as a Dermatologist for "Red Flags in Skin Lesion".

HAIR RESTORATION
----------------------------
Always has been my passion that I started to develop during my trainee years as a Plastic Surgeon, circa 20 years ago.

I was and still is fascinated by the science of hair growth. I started seriously doing hair Transplantation 10 years ago while working in UiTM and later consolidated my knowledge during my Fellowship in South Korea.

Alhamdulillah, after all the years and hundreds of cases, (and leaning from my own mistakes before), my practise has evolved.

The current improvement consists of
1) proper patient selection
2) utilising non surgical modalities to enhance the results
3) hair Transplantation design
4) latest equipment (relevant but not expensive)
5) technical modifications involving hair grafts harvesting, ex vivo management and hair planting
6) post operative care
7) trouble-shooting for poor grafts take
8) managing complications
9) handling complex cases
10) transplantation in scar tissues.

Along the way i have attended courses and create multiple local and international partners for knowledge-sharing.

I have also became members of hair Transplantation societies, country representatives, gave multile talks and training to others as well as an advisor to the Ministry of Health, Hair Transplant commitee.

Despite my busy schedule as a Plastic Surgeon and having to also do other Reconstructive Surgeries on daily basis, Hair Restoration will always be my deep passion.

It has been a very Hairy journey so far ;)
