There is a STORY behind Elite Optometry Vision Care Group PLT.
A lot of people have been asking me why I made this major decision to leave Kuala Lumpur and reside in Sibu, Sarawak after many years of working as well as living there. I was doing quite well in KL and own 2 condo units there but ultimately, I decided to open this optometry practice in my hometown - Sibu.
One night after a phone conversation with my dad, I realised that I have loads of responsibilities other than my own career. Being the eldest son and grandson of my family in Sibu, I have to be responsible to my beloved parents who are going to turn 60 (My dad, Steven who has started his optometry practice since 1985 and still has a great passion for his 33-year public service) and also my grandpa who is turning 88 this April.
I still remember that night my dad and I had a deep conversation about his company, "Steven's Optometric Centre" future development. I remembered I asked him two questions:
First question, “Dad, is it alright if I didn't go back to Sibu and carry on your practice?”
He was silent for a moment and said he would respect my decision and wished me well in the guidance of God.
Secondly, I asked:
"Dad, if I didn't go back for good, what would you do to your practice and how would you feel?"
This time he was silent for a few seconds again and replied that’s okay and he would sell off this practice to others but of course he would feel lost as everything is being built up for the past 33 years.
After listening to my dad's reply and response for both questions, I know that I have a responsibility and mission to be completed at the right time. Thus, I told him to give me some time and I won't let him down as his son.
Apart from family responsibility, as an qualified optometrist, I realised there is a lack of primary EYE CARE awareness and knowledge among the people in my hometown. Therefore, I would like to raise this awareness in Sibu and I believe that with my previous internship experience in India and years of experience in the eye hospital as well as the largest retail chain store in Malaysia, this 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 with the assistance of public and private sector organisations.
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗬𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 are the main purpose of this company and I believe this company will be the angel starting from today onwards to help Sibu population to 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (even for the unfortunate and needy). And hence, we adopt the motto: “𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡”

慈光眼科集团的开始是有这样一个故事：
很多人问我为什么突然做了这么大的决定回来砂拉越诗巫开了这家眼科中心… 其实我在吉隆坡发展得非常好，而且也买了俩间公寓打算在哪里落地生根了。后来，在一个晚上，我和我爸爸电话聊得好深……我爸爸是虔诚的基督徒，为人和蔼可亲，谦虚待人，常为别人着想多过自己…他毕业于澳洲墨尔本大学光学系，在1985年开创了 “慈光眼科中心”直到今天，公司到今日已经有三十三年而且他还是拥有很多锺憬。那通电话后，我知道身为家中的长子和长孙…我必须对我刚要迈入60岁的父母和刚刚做88岁生日的公公负责任。
我还记得那天晚上我和爸爸关于他公司未来发展的对话。我还记得因为我在吉隆坡发展得不错所以就问了爸爸俩个问题：
第一个问题：“爸爸，如果我没有回去诗巫继续您的家业眼科中心…您会让我这么做吗？”
爸爸安静了一阵子，回答说他会尊重我的决定也会祝福我的前途，但最重要的是有依靠上帝的帮助。
第二个问题：“爸爸，如果我不会回诗巫发展了，您会对您的慈光眼科中心有什么打算？您的心情又会怎样？”
这次，爸爸停顿了更长的时间然后回答我说没问题…他会把慈光眼科卖给有心人，但是心情一定感到好失落，因为今天所有的都是过去三十三年天天努力付出的结果。
当我听完我爸的回答后，我知道我有使命要完成。挂电话之前，我告诉我爸爸给我一点时间安顿吉隆坡所有的事物，我不会让他失望的！
除了家庭因素之外，身为一名合格验眼师的我…我发现在我家乡的市民到今日对正规的眼科视力检测还不是很了解。因此，我希望借着这眼科中心能提高家乡人民对正规眼科视力检测的了解。我也相信以我过去十年在外读书工作的经验（印度实习生活 + 五年在眼科医院&马来西亚最大眼镜连锁销售公司）再加上政府和私人机构和公会的帮忙，这个梦想是可行的！！

是我们慈光眼科集团的终极目标。我相信慈光眼科集团从今日开始会成为人民的守护天使，帮助每个有需要的朋友（包括不幸的一群：孤儿、寡妇、年老长辈、特殊儿童、残障人士 & 有经济问题的朋友）找回清晰的视力来活出更美好的自己。这样是为什么我们慈光眼科集团的格言是：“您的视力是我们的使命！！”
