Dr Max Hu Chuen-Wei graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, under a Malaysian Federal Government sponsorship programme, having been a top scorer in his SPM and Cambridge A-level examinations. He successfully obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2012 and completed his Gastroenterology specialty training in England. Following his gazettement on the
UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register, Dr Max spent a further year at University Hospital Southampton pursuing his subspecialty interest in therapeutic luminal endoscopy. He is fully accredited in gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and polypectomy by the UK’s Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy. As of 2025, he has over 13 years of experience in endoscopy and has performed more than 7,000 endoscopic procedures. Dr Max has won travel grants and bursaries from the British Society of Gastroenterology and United European Gastroenterology for presenting at national and international conferences and meetings. He was Consultant at Western Sussex Hospitals prior to relocating to Malaysia after 17 years in the United Kingdom. He is passionate about quality in endoscopy and on transferring endoscopic technical and non-technical skills to the next generation of endoscopists, having been teaching faculty on colonoscopy training and national endoscopy simulation courses during his time in the UK.
