Today we commemorate the breakthrough discovery that mosquitoes transmit malaria — a pivotal moment in infectious disease research.

World Mosquito Day is observed yearly on August 20 to mark Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery in 1897 that the female anopheles mosquitoes transmit malaria from person to person. This year’s focus highlights the importance of closing the gaps in access to malaria prevention, detection, and treatment.
