Let’s talk about Diabetes (and it’s not just about the sugar!) 🩺
A lot of people think diabetes is just about "eating too much candy," but it’s actually a complex chronic condition where the body has trouble turning food into energy.
Here’s the 101:
When we eat, our body breaks carbs down into glucose (sugar). A hormone called insulin acts like a "key" to let that sugar into our cells to be used for energy.
Type 1: The body’s immune system attacks the "key-makers" in the pancreas. No insulin is produced, so we have to manually inject it to stay alive. 💉
Type 2: The body either doesn't make enough insulin or doesn't use it well (insulin resistance). It’s often managed with lifestyle, meds, or insulin. 💊
The Reality:
Living with diabetes means making roughly 180 extra decisions every single day—from counting every gram of carbs to calculating exercise, stress, and sleep, all of which impact blood sugar.
It’s a 24/7 balancing act. It’s hard work, but with the right tools and support, people with diabetes can live long, healthy, and active lives! 💙
