𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐥𝐞 — for instance, mild hearing loss or fluid in the middle ear (often from ear infections). Children might still respond to loud sounds or voices, but they could be missing certain speech sounds, which affects how they learn to speak.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 — A child’s speech development relies significantly on their ability to hear well. Temporary hearing loss—like that caused by ear fluid—can interfere with the acquisition of speech and language, especially in the early years.

Even if your child seems to hear well, it’s helpful to rule out any hearing issues—especially those that are mild or come and go. Clear hearing is essential for learning speech sounds accurately.
