Sarcoma Awareness Month: 肉瘤意识宣传月:

Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that affects the bones, connective tissues of the body, and areas such as blood vessels, muscle, nerves and fat. It is a complex and diverse disease, with many distinct subtypes.

肉瘤是一种罕见的癌症,可影响骨骼、身体结缔组织以及血管、肌肉、神经和脂肪等区域。肉瘤是一种复杂多样的疾病,其中包含多种不同的亚型。

Most other forms of cancers develop from epidermal tissue (the outermost layer of skin on our body), but sarcomas develop from mesodermal tissue (the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, as well as connective tissues).

大多数其他形式的癌症是由表皮组织发展而来,但肉瘤是由中胚层组织(肌肉骨骼系统、心血管系统以及结缔组织)发展而来。

Dr Richard Quek, a Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology at Parkway Cancer Centre, explains 5 things you need to know about sarcoma.

“How often should I get screened?”
It’s one of the most common yet important questions women ask about cancer prevention.

With 1 in 5 people likely to develop cancer before 75, routine screening can mean the difference between early intervention and a delayed diagnosis.

But screening isn’t one-size-fits-all. It evolves with your age, history, and risk factors.

Swipe through for a decade-by-decade guide to recommended gynaecological cancer screenings, then speak to your doctor about what’s right for you.

Vaginal cancer is rare, but its early symptoms often resemble common health issues, which can make it easy to miss. That’s why understanding the risk factors is important.

Women aged 60 and above, those with persistent high-risk HPV infections, a history of cervical cancer or precancerous changes, and exposure to DES before birth are more likely to develop it.

Even if you feel healthy, regular checkups are essential, especially if you belong to any of these higher-risk groups. Being informed and proactive can make a big difference.

Take charge of your health today. Learn more about vaginal cancer risks and how to protect yourself.

Endometrial cancer is often misunderstood, with many women dismissing early symptoms due to common myths. Did you know?

🔬 A normal Pap smear does not rule out endometrial cancer – it only screens for cervical cancer.
⚖️ While obesity increases risk, 1 in 4 cases occur in women with healthy weights.
🩸 The #1 symptom (abnormal bleeding) often appears without pain.

The good news? When caught early, endometrial cancer has a >90% 5-year survival rate in Singapore. At Parkway Cancer Centre, our specialists provide personalised care through advanced diagnostics and treatment options.

Let’s replace misinformation with awareness, because knowing these facts could save lives.

When we dismiss abnormal bleeding as 'just stress' or 'getting older', we miss crucial warning signs.

You deserve to know:
🔴 Postmenopausal bleeding is never normal
🔴 Weeks of spotting is worth a doctor's visit
🔴 Heavy/unpredictable flow needs checking

Don’t rationalize it away. You’re taking charge, because early detection matters.

❤️ Save this post. If you notice any of these signs later, book a consultation with our experts at Parkway Cancer Centre today, or reach out if you have any questions.

Endometrial and ovarian cancers are often grouped together, but their differences are crucial for early detection. Here’s what every woman should know:

🔴 Endometrial cancer (the most common gynecologic cancer) sends clear signals—most notably abnormal bleeding, especially after menopause. This symptom often leads to earlier diagnosis.

🔵 Ovarian cancer, on the other hand, hides in plain sight. Its symptoms—persistent bloating, pelvic pressure, or urinary changes—are subtle and easily mistaken for everyday discomfort. By the time it’s detected, treatment options may be more limited.

Key takeaways:
- Bleeding ≠ normal: Postmenopausal bleeding warrants immediate attention.
- Bloating ≠ harmless: If it lasts 2+ weeks, ask about imaging.
- No routine tests exist for either cancer in average-risk women—symptom awareness is critical.

Knowledge of these differences empowers you to advocate for timely care. Share to spread lifesaving awareness. 💜
