Reminiscing about that 1st night of DiREXES (1st Nov 2022). Sometimes, when organizing a course, it does not have to be all work and serious. To add an element of fun and games, we had a session called "disaster meals". Participants were divided into 5 groups, and then each of them took a cabutan bertuah to see what ingredients they would have. Then, they were tasked with cooking the given ingredients (with the help of a facilitator), from scratch! Among the ingredients were live chickens, rabbits, eels and fishes!

Participants were also given basic cooking materials. How basic you ask? Just some sabut kelapa, ferro rods, dry woods and some parang. None of those fancy cutleries. Now thats some challenge!

Overall, it was fun, and definitely was a night to be remembered!

Some behind the scene atmosphere for our last Disaster Response Exercise Eastern Sabah (DiREXES) by the organizing committee members. The 3 days 2 nights course was done as an outdoor activities, with participants camping out at Taman Bukit Tawau.

As it was raining season, we decided to pitch most of our tents under the provided gazebo. This was done mostly for security reason, as we do not want fallen branches to hit the tents.

Special thanks to all the people and especially to Department of Emergency Medicine, School of Medical Science USM for providing us with camping tents for the course. Jasamu dikenang!

Reminiscing on the 1st day of Disaster Response Exercise Eastern Sabah (DiREXES) done on 1st November 2022. The morning was spent with indoor lectures on various disaster related topics. In the afternoon, we focused on skill based stations. We were lucky that it did not rain that day!

Reminiscing on past event that the Emergency Department of Hospital Tawau organized, the Disaster Response Exercise Eastern Sabah (DiREXES).

As part of Hospital Tawau effort to train KKM staff on acute disaster response, a 3 days 2 night course was conducted on 1st to 3rd November 2022, in Taman Bukit Tawau, Sabah.

9 Emergency Physicians were recruited from various hospitals in Sabah (Tawau, Lahad Datu, Duchess of Kent and Queen Elizabeth). A total of 42 medical practitioners from various medical facilities in Sabah took part in the course.

The course was officiated by Dr Azman, Timbalan Pengarah Hospital Tawau.

On 16th to 18th August, ED Hospital Tawau had organized a 3-days-course Trauma Life Support. Participated by our hospital staff including ed dept, ortho dept, surgical dept with our cluster hospital (hospital semporna, hospital kunak, hospital lahad datu) we have achieved our goal which was to equipt the participants with knowledge, technical skills and decision making skills to improve the care of patients with multiple injuries in order to maintain high standard and adequate supervision.
