🦠 Influenza A (Flu) — Parent Guide / SUN-bites #6
👶 Has your child developed sudden high fever, cough, or extreme tiredness?
This may be influenza (flu), not just a simple cold!
🌡️ Common Symptoms
• Sudden fever (usually ≥38℃)
• Cough or sore throat
• Body aches, headache
• Extreme tiredness, low energy
• Runny or blocked nose
• Children may also have vomiting or diarrhea
🩺 When to See a Doctor?
✅ Bring your child for medical care early if:
• Persistent fever
• High fever with seizures, fast breathing, or wheezing
• Child is very drowsy, weak, refusing to drink or eat
• Chest pain or difficulty breathing
• Child has chronic illness (asthma, heart disease, weakened immunity)
💡 Important Reminders
• Influenza A is highly contagious, especially in the first 3–5 days of fever
• Ensure plenty of rest and fluids
• Follow doctor’s advice for medicines; antiviral (e.g., oseltamivir) may be needed
• Wash hands often, wear masks, avoid crowded places
