Unsure what counselling is?
Counselling can include psychoeducation* (see below for definition) and effective, evidence based well-being and practical tools. It can help you deal with, and overcome, issues that are causing (one or more):
🌿 feelings of being stuck
🌿 emotional pain
🌿 psychological discomfort or distress
🌿 impairment of your daily functioning
🌿 symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression
.
Counselling can provide a safe, confidential and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult or challenging situations and feelings that you may not be comfortable sharing elsewhere.
The counsellor is there to support you, accepting and respecting how you experience your challenges and the meanings you attach to your feelings and emotions.
The counsellor won't usually give advice, but will help you develop your own insights and understanding of your problems, within your cultural context and belief system. Solutions will be explored, as well as, possible new tools to regain and maintain well-being.
Counselling can help you:
🌿 cope with a bereavement, loss or relationship breakdown
🌿 cope with redundancy or work-related stress
🌿 cope with moving to a new country/challenges of being an expat
🌿 explore identity issues
🌿 deal with issues preventing you achieving your ambitions
🌿 cope with and prepare for leaving home/going to university
🌿 cope with stress in senior school years and develop tools to better deal with challenges
🌿 deal with feelings of depression or sadness, and experience life more positively
🌿 deal with feelings of anxiety, helping you worry less about things
🌿 understand yourself and your problems better
🌿 feel more confident
🌿 develop a better understanding of other people's points of view

* Psychoeducation involves learning about and understanding mental health and wellbeing. It’s similar to physical education, where you learn about how your body works, how to look after it and the impacts of different strains or stressors - but instead you apply this to the mind.
