๐ŸŒ Fostering Emotional Well-Being and Belonging

In our recent meeting, we explored how feeling "special" is deeply linked to love and helping others. Many shared that their sense of worth comes from supporting those in need rather than from personal achievements.

Being seen as strong often means hiding emotions, but some find comfort in gospel music, dancing, and seeking personal space. We emphasised confidentiality as we discussed self-worth, emotional burdens, and the balance between giving to others and caring for ourselves.

Together, weโ€™re building a space for honest conversations, shared strength, and true belonging. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽพ Tennis Training in Action! ๐ŸŽพ

On 22 February 2025, we hit the court for an incredible wheelchair tennis session! We learned the essentials: how to hold a racket, how to control movement when swinging, and how to manoeuvre the wheelchair when the ball comes our way. The experience was nothing short of amazing!

What a wonderful time this was!

What an amazing time we had at our end or year function.

Our mission is empowering wheelchair users, advocating for their rights, and fostering for the creation of a society in which persons with disabilities can fully participate without barriers.

Now, we can not do this alone without our family members and friends. This is why this year's end of year function was family-friendly. We brought our friends, kids, family members, and most importantly, our "helpers."

Back Ground

Namibia Association of Wheelchair Users (NAWCU) is an organisation of people with disabilities (OPD), specifically wheelchair users and stakeholders who initiated the formation of a group to discuss common issues, since January 2016. NAWCU evolved as a result of the annual โ€œWorkshop 4 Wheelsโ€ ran by Windhoek Central Hospital Occupational Therapy Department that took place from 2012 to 2015. Currently, the organisation has approximately 100 members from Khomas Region. Other members are spread in other towns like Gobabis, Okahandja and the coast. Our desire is to be eventually represented across Namibia.
