Today is World Parkinson’s Day

A day to raise awareness, show support, and honour the resilience of those living with Parkinson’s disease and their families.

You might not know that they often struggle with everyday tasks we take for granted, such as:

Buttoning a shirt or tying shoelaces
Holding a cup or utensil without spilling
Writing or typing
Walking steadily or maintaining balance
Speaking clearly or expressing emotions on their face

Every step, every effort, and every breakthrough matters. Let’s stand together to support research, understanding, and compassionate care.

Awareness leads to action — and action makes a difference.

Children grow best when nurtured by caring hands and connected communities. 💛

During the Week of the Young Child, we celebrate the power of early childhood and the strong connections that help every child thrive. One step at a time, together.

As occupational therapists, we honor the small steps that lead to big developmental leaps. Every milestone matters, every moment counts.

Happy Week of the Young Child!

🌍 Happy World Health Day!

Today, let’s make a choice — every choice counts.
Let’s choose healthy habits.
Let’s choose wellness.
Let’s choose life.

Small steps every day can make a big difference: nourishing our bodies, caring for our minds, and supporting the well-being of those around us.

Your health is your greatest wealth, let’s celebrate it and protect it together.

You don’t need toys.
You need imagination.

Today:
A block was lunch.
A toilet roll was a phone.
And without even realizing it, your child practiced:
• language
• creativity
• problem solving
• social skills
• fine motor skills

This is pretend play.
This is therapy.

Today we recognize Autism Acceptance Day

Not just awareness, but true acceptance.
Acceptance of different ways of thinking, communicating, and experiencing the world.

Autistic individuals don’t need to be “fixed”, they need to be understood, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

Let’s move beyond labels and focus on strengths, individuality, and inclusion in our schools, workplaces, and communities.

Different, not less.

Build a Face… Without Looking

A fun, slightly silly activity with BIG developmental value.

Place a piece of paper in front of your child’s face and let them build a face… without looking! They’ll need to rely on touch, body awareness, and their own sense of space to decide where each part goes.

Don’t worry when it’s not “perfect”, that’s exactly where the learning happens. As the activity goes on, you might notice them using visual cues from their own face to guide placement… and that’s okay too!

Why we love it:
✔️ Builds body awareness
✔️ Develops spatial awareness
✔️ Encourages tactile processing (learning through touch)
✔️ Supports motor planning
✔️ Strengthens problem-solving

The real goal?
Helping children understand that mistakes are part of learning, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be valuable.

🌍 World TB Day

Tuberculosis (TB) is preventable and treatable, yet it still affects many lives worldwide, and not just rural areas. Awareness matters.

Who is more susceptible to TB?

✔️ People with weakened immune systems (e.g. HIV, chronic illness)
✔️ Young children and older adults
✔️ Individuals living in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces
✔️ Those with poor nutrition
✔️ People with conditions like diabetes
✔️ Individuals exposed to someone with active TB
✔️ Smoking or va**ng (which can weaken lung health)

TB spreads through the air, so early detection and treatment are key to protecting yourself and others.

What can you do?
• Seek medical care if you have a persistent cough
• Ensure good ventilation in living spaces
• Support overall health and immunity
• Avoid smoking/va**ng and protect your lungs
• Stay informed and reduce stigma

Together, we can raise awareness and support healthier communities.

Number Challenge

A quick, playful activity you can do anywhere, no prep needed!

Say or show your child a sequence of numbers, and let them copy it back using their fingers. Start simple (e.g. 2–3 numbers) and build up as they get more confident.

Why we love it:
✔️ Strengthens working memory
✔️ Builds attention and listening skills
✔️ Develops finger awareness (so important for fine motor tasks!)
✔️ Supports sequencing (a key skill for reading & maths)
✔️ Encourages bilateral coordination

Make it fun:
• Turn it into a game (“Can you beat me?”)
• Swap roles and let your child be the leader
• Add a timer for an extra challenge

Small moments. Big development.
Learning through play at home

🧦💛 World Down Syndrome Day 💛🧦

Today we celebrate the uniqueness, strengths, and incredible potential of individuals with Down Syndrome.

You may notice many people wearing bright, colourful, or mismatched socks today! The “sock challenge” is a fun way to start conversations about Down syndrome. Chromosomes can look a little like socks under a microscope, and wearing different socks is a simple way to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

People with Down syndrome bring joy, determination, and their own special perspective to the world. With the right support, opportunities, and inclusive communities, they can learn, grow, and thrive.

So today — rock your socks, celebrate differences, and help spread awareness! 🧦
