WHAT MAKES NAKARA DIFFERENT TO OTHER TANNERIES...?

We process a diversified portfolio of various raw materials and make beautiful leather goods for the export market as well as for our own Nakara Retail Shops in Namibia.

Today I would like to introduce you to our African Kabeljou Fish leather, also known as Silver Kob or Cape Kob. The silver kob is mainly caugh off the Southern African coastline. Instead of discarding the skins, this byproduct is being tanned at Nakara and further processed into luxurious leather goods for the fashion industry.

The Kabeljou fish is a non-endangered species and hence Nakara adds value to its existing value chain.

Why are we proud of what we do?
Leather making is an ancient art that has been practiced for more than 7,000 years. Our ancestors used leather to protect themselves. They used to hunt wild animals for food, then made clothing, footwear and used these hides to build tents for shelter. Hides back then, and still today are only a by-product. At Nakara, we are proud of carrying on this ancient craftsmanship into the present generation. It is about creating and giving an added value to a raw material that wasn't intended for making leather in the first place. We are proud of and at the same time creating prestigious that may accompany you for a lifetime.
