Why it’s okay to still grieve years later

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline...it weaves itself quietly into the fabric of our lives.
Even years later, moments of sadness, longing, or reflection can surface, and that’s perfectly natural.

Missing someone you love isn’t a sign that you haven’t healed; it’s a sign that your love endures.

Be gentle with yourself. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting - it means learning to carry love and loss side by side.

Exhumation is the careful and respectful process of removing a person’s remains from their place of burial. This may be requested for several reasons:
such as relocation to a different cemetery, legal investigations, or to honour a loved one’s final wishes to be laid to rest elsewhere.

Exhumation requires legal permissions and is carried out with dignity, sensitivity, and in accordance with regulations.

Repatriation, on the other hand, involves the transportation of a deceased person from one country (or state) to another for burial or cremation.

This is often needed when someone passes away overseas or wishes to be returned to their place of origin. Repatriation can involve complex logistics, including documentation, travel arrangements, and coordination with international authorities, which funeral directors like Tommy Jarman Funeral Services are experienced in managing with care and compassion.

Grief is exhausting: not just emotionally, but physically, too. It’s okay if you need more sleep, more quiet, or simply more time to pause.

Rest isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s part of healing. Give yourself permission to step back, breathe, and take it one moment at a time.

Be gentle with yourself. Grief takes energy, and you deserve care, too.

The holidays can look different after loss...and that’s okay.

The Science of Mindfulness
When we’re grieving or feeling overwhelmed, our minds often drift, replaying the past or worrying about what’s next. Mindfulness helps bring us back to this moment, one breath at a time.

By simply pausing and noticing where we are - our breath, the sounds around us, the weight of our body - we give the mind a chance to rest.

Science shows that mindfulness can:
💜 Reduce stress and anxiety
💜 Improve focus and mental clarity
💜 Support emotional balance and resilience

It’s not about silencing your thoughts, it’s about gently returning to now, again and again.

Dignity in the Mortuary
At Tommy Jarman Funeral Services, we believe that respect and dignity should be shown at every stage of the funeral process, including the time your loved ones are in our care.

- In our mortuaries, we take every measure to ensure that each person is treated with the utmost compassion, professionalism, and sensitivity.

- To maintain privacy and respect: we have female staff available to attend to female clients if needed.

- Every person is handled with care, gentleness, and confidentiality, as if they were our own family.

- Our mortuary team is trained to uphold cultural and personal values with deep respect at all times.

Because to us, dignity doesn’t end with life, it continues in how we care for those who have passed.

3 Gentle ways to support yourself this week:
🕊️ Journaling: Let your thoughts flow freely. Writing can help you untangle emotions and find small moments of clarity.
🌿 Breathing exercises: Take a few slow, deep breaths. Pause. Remind yourself you’re safe in this moment.
💬 Reaching out to a friend: Sometimes, sharing a quiet conversation can bring more comfort than we expect.

You don’t have to do it all...just one small act of care can make a difference.
