LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY HEALING SESSION. 🌈

A free somatic healing space 🤲🏾⚘

Our bodies hold stories — of love, survival, resistance, and pain. This gathering is an invitation for LGBTQIA+ community members to come together in a safe, affirming space to move, release, and reconnect with the wisdom of the body.

Together we will explore a gentle but powerful healing journey through:

• Somatic Movement – to reconnect with the body and awaken awareness

• Rage Ritual – a guided space to safely release suppressed emotions and access deeper truths held in the soma

• Transformational Breathwork – to integrate, ground, and close the session

This session is free and offered with love to the LGBTQIA+ community as a space for collective care, expression, and healing.

Location: Yoga Shala, Macadam Street, Gruner Kranz Complex, Windhoek

Perfect for complete beginners or anyone looking to get back to basics. No flexibility or previous experience is required!

What to Expect:
Step onto the mat in a supportive, judgment-free environment designed specifically for “newbies”. This class moves at a steady, manageable pace, allowing you to get comfortable with foundational poses while learning the “why” behind each movement.

Our theme for March is PRANAYAMA ! You may be familiar with pranayama as we practice it quite often at the Yoga Shala.

The word Pranayama can be broken into “Prana” which means “life force” and “ayama” which means “control” or “extension”. It is an ancient yogic practise that utilises control and extension of the breath to manipulate prana as it travels through the body.

It is the fourth limb of Ashtanga yoga and it involved consciously regulating inhalation, exhalation, and retention. Pranayama is most commonly used to calm the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, improve respiratory function, and increase mental clarity. It can also, however, be used to energise the body and to generate heat.

The core stages of pranayama are:
Puraka (inhalation)
Kumbhaka (retention)
Rechaka (exhalation)
Techniques that you may be familiar with (and if not - I expect to see you front and centre at your next class, ready to learn!):

Nadi Shodhana: alternate nostril breathing for balance and focus
Ujjayi: also known as “Victoria’s breath” for relaxation and heat
Bhramari: “Bee breath” for quieting the mind and reducing anxiety
Kapalbhati: “skull shining” breath for detoxing the body

Maybe you’ve been curious to try yoga but you’re feeling a little shy?
Or maybe you’ve started but you feel the pace is too fast and you feel like you’re still at step 1?
Or maybe you’ve been practicing for a while already but your alignment just sees a little off?
Or maybe your teacher keeps dropping these cool Sanskrit words and you just want to know what’s going on?

Join us we sink deep into the foundations of what yoga actually is and how to start. With a small information session, we will guide you through some prominent poses, some traditional yoga, alignment, and anything else you’ve ever been curious about.

A gentle and fun series, meant to give you confidence and a bit of patience for yourself 🙌
