Most people don’t think about cancer care until they have to.
And when they do, time suddenly matters. Distance matters. Access matters.

In 2025, one question guided our work at the Namibian Oncology Centre:
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿?

That question led to Namibia’s first stem cell transplant.
To PSA walk-in testing that didn’t exist before.
To partnerships and quieter decisions that won’t make headlines, but might make the difference for someone’s family.

Early detection saves lives. And access should never be the reason someone waits.

As we move into 2026, we’re still asking the same question.

Some of our patients travel long distances just for a 15-minute check-in.

Often, they really just need reassurance that what they’re experiencing is normal. 𝗕𝘂𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝘅-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽.

Through our partnership with Macquarie Medical Care, NOC patients can now consult one of our GPs from home, during office hours, via WhatsApp.
​
𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀:
• Routine symptom management during treatment
• Medical support between visits
• Prescriptions for supportive care medications

Oncology consultations and treatment planning remain in person with the NOC care team.
​

Namibia just performed its first stem cell transplant, a treatment that used to mean flying abroad, separation from family, and costs most couldn't afford.

Next step: making sure every Namibian can access it, and not just those with medical aid.

A job well done! Kudos to The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia, PathCare Namibia, Cancer Association of Namibia, Dr Simba, the Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre for this milestone achievement 👏🏽👏🏻👏🏼👏🏿

Cancer breakthrough... Namibia has performed its first-ever Autologous Stem Cell Transplant, a major medical breakthrough for the country in cancer care. Autologous Stem Cell Transplant is a medical procedure where a patient’s own stem cells are collected, stored and then reinfused after high-dose chemotherapy or radiation. The procedure was completed in Windhoek by the Namibia Bone Marrow Transplant Collaboration Group, providing life-saving treatment for blood cancers.
