WHY YOU SHOULD CARE FOR THE UMBILICAL CORD.

📍To prevent Haemorrhage
📍To promote drying of the cord and its subsequent separation.
📍To prevent infection of the cord.

🎈After the baby’s bath, wash and dry your hands, clean the cord with sterile cotton wool deeped in methylated spirit.

🎈Clean the cord from the base first, extending to its length using one cotton wool swab at a time.

🎈The above sterile should be carried out daily, routinely and religiously until the cord separates by dry gangrene and falls off.

🎈This happens between the 3rd and 10th day,if it was cleaned properly and free from infection.

🎈Ensure that the diaper or pants doesn’t cover the umbilical cord.

You should also observe the umbilical cord for the following:

📍Bleeding
📍Automatic dryness
📍Sepsis eg wetness, offensive odour, redness or discharge around the umbilical area, delay in separation and healing.

NOTE: ⚠️Do not use toothpaste or any other thing on the umbilcus.

What is menopause?

Menopause is the stage of life that follows the end of the menstrual cycles. Each person may experience menopause differently.

It can last for several years, and there are three stages:

Perimenopause: This is the transitional time that starts before menopause and includes the 12 months that follow a person’s last period.

Menopause: This starts either 12 months after the last period or when menstruation has stopped for a clinical reason, such as the removal of the ovaries.

Postmenopause: Postmenopause refers to the years after menopause, although it can be difficult to know when menopause finished and postmenopause starts.

📍Common ages to experience symptoms

According to the Office on Women’s HealthTrusted Source, the average age for menopause in the U.S. is 52 years, and it usually occurs between the ages of 48 and 58 years. It may happen earlier if the person has never had children or if they smoke.

Sometimes menopause happens early. Doctors call it “premature menopause” if it develops before the age of 40.

Symptoms of Menopause

📍Irregular periods
📍Vaginal dryness
📍Hot flashes
📍Chills
📍Night sweats
📍Sleep problems
📍Mood changes
📍Weight gain and slowed metabolism
📍Thinning hair and dry skin
📍Loss of breast fullness

Treatment

Menopause is not a health problem but a natural transition. However, it can involve unwanted physical and mental changes.
Anyone who has concerns about these changes should seek medical advice.

Tips for managing the challenges of menopause include:

📍Seeking counseling for anxiety, mood changes, and relationship concerns.
📍Establishing good sleeping habits and getting plenty of rest.
📍Doing Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
📍Talking to friends and family about the experience of menopause.
📍Exploring new ways of enjoying intimacy with a partner, like the use of lubricants and prolonged foreplay.
