What are Piles (Hemorrhoids)?
Swollen Veins:
Piles are essentially swollen veins, similar to varicose veins, that occur in the re**um and a**s.
Internal vs. External:
Internal hemorrhoids: are located inside the re**um and may not cause pain unless they prolapse (bulge out).
External hemorrhoids: are located outside the a**s and can be more painful, especially if they have a blood clot.
Causes:
Increased Pressure: Straining during bowel movements, prolonged sitting, and chronic constipation or diarrhea can increase pressure in the re**um and a**s, leading to swollen veins.
Other Factors: Pregnancy, obesity, and a diet low in fiber can also contribute to piles.
Symptoms:
Pain: Pain in the a**s, especially during or after bowel movements.
Itching: Itching around the a**s.
Bleeding: Bright red blood on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl after bowel movements.
Lumps: Hard lumps near the a**s that feel sore or tender.
Pr*****ed Hemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids that bulge outside the a**s.
Treatment and Prevention:
Lifestyle Changes:
High-Fiber Diet: Eating a diet rich in fiber can help soften stools and reduce straining.
Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can also help prevent constipation.
Avoid Straining: Don't strain during bowel movements.
Warm Baths: Sitz baths (soaking in warm water) can help soothe the area.
Over-the-Counter Treatments:
Creams and Ointments: These can help relieve pain and itching.
Suppositories: These can help reduce swelling and inflammation.
Medical Treatments:
Rubber Band Ligation: A procedure where a rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply.
Sclerotherapy: A procedure where a solution is injected into the hemorrhoid to shrink it.
Surgery: In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the hemorrhoids.
