At the one-day sensitization and training workshop held on 18th November 2025 for principal officers, themed “Mitigating Corrupt Practices in the Workplace,” over 70 participants from clinical and administrative departments gathered to deepen their understanding of ethical conduct and workplace transparency.
During the event, the Resident Commissioner of ICPC for Enugu and Ebonyi States, Barr. Kabir Elelu, urged the staff of NOFIC Abakaliki to lead by example in building a corruption-free healthcare system. He emphasized that integrity must be practiced daily, not preached occasionally, and called on all units to uphold the values that ensure public trust.
In his welcoming remarks, the Medical Director of NOFIC Abakaliki, Prof. Johnson Akuma Obuna, warmly received the Commissioner and presented kola nut, a traditional symbol of respect, peace, and hospitality, to honor his presence. He also underscored the Centre’s unwavering commitment to sustaining staff training, ethical orientation, and accountability.
Earlier, the Chairman of ACTU in NOFIC Abakaliki, Dr. Daniel Ajah, highlighted the significant impact of having ACTU functional within the Centre. He noted that the Unit has greatly enhanced awareness creation for both staff and facility users, strengthening a culture of transparency and responsibility across operations.
The workshop recorded the participation of key departmental leaders, including the Head of Clinical Services (HCS), Dr. Yakubu Emmanuel; Head of Administration, Mr. Anthony Oko; Head of Procurement, Pastor Chris Otuonye; Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Patricia Ani; and the Director/Head of Training & Research, Prof. Henry Uro-Chukwu. Their presence further reinforced the collective resolve to institutionalize integrity across all service points.
Workshop Highlights:
✔️ Three eye-opening presentations by ICPC officials on ethics, compliance, and anti-corruption frameworks
✔️ A unified commitment to entrench discipline and transparency in all NOFIC operations
