Your animals and ticks
Ticks are parasites that suck blood by attaching themselves to animals and humans.
As a result of their parasitic nature, they benefit from their host but are detrimental to them.
Ticks transmit a wide range of disease-causing agents(microbes) to their host.
In severe cases of tick infestation, there is a lot of blood loss. This can lead to anaemia and death.
There could also be secondary infections at their feeding sites on the body.
Ticks could also cause paralysis and death as a result of the toxins they secrete.
Another interesting thing about ticks is that they can also attach themselves to humans, suck their blood and transmit diseases to them, many of which are serious.
It is extremely important to prevent your animals from getting ticks and to also eradicate them when they get it.
Watch out for the prevention and eradication of ticks in our next post.
