Cancer screening isn’t one-size-fits-all and that’s a good thing.

Screening helps find cancer early, sometimes even before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective. The right screening depends on who you are, your age, and your risk factors.

Women have specific screening recommendations focused mainly on breast and cervical cancer.

Men are encouraged to screen for prostate, especially as they get older.

Some screenings are important for both men and women.
• Colonoscopy checks for colorectal cancer and allows doctors to remove polyps before they turn cancerous
• Low-dose CT scan (LDCT) helps detect lung cancer early in people at higher risk

Screening is not about fear.
It’s about information, prevention, and peace of mind.

Not sure which screening is right for you?
Speak with our specialists today. At Jacaranda Cancer Centre, we help you understand your options and take control of your health, confidently and early.

Cervical cancer doesn’t always appear suddenly. In many cases, it sends warning signs long before it becomes serious and knowing these signs can make all the difference.

Watch out for these symptoms:
• Bleeding between periods, after s*x, or after menopause
• Unusual vaginal discharge, watery, pink, bloody, or foul-smelling
• Persistent pelvic or lower back pain
• Longer or heavier menstrual periods than normal

These symptoms don’t always mean cancer, but they are not normal and should never be ignored.

What can you do to stay safe?
• Get screened regularly: Pap smears and HPV tests save lives
• Get vaccinated: the HPV vaccine prevents the main cause of cervical cancer
• Listen to your body: if something feels “off,” see a doctor promptly

Routine screenings can detect abnormal cell changes before they turn into cancer. If you’re between 21 and 65, having a screening plan is one of the best decisions you can make for your health this year,

HPV vaccine prevents against cancer and it protects against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a very common virus linked to several cancers, especially cervical cancer.

Many people have heard of HPV, but not everyone understands how powerful this protection is.
HPV is responsible for almost all cases of cervical cancer, and the vaccine works by stopping the most dangerous strains before they cause harm.

Here’s why this matters:
• HPV infections often show no symptoms
• Cancer can take years to develop
• Prevention is far easier than treatment

The HPV vaccine, combined with regular screening, gives individuals a real chance to stay ahead of cancer — not react to it.

This conversation is not about fear.
It’s about knowledge, prevention, and informed choice.

Cervical cancer begins in the cervix, the opening to the uterus. It often develops slowly over time, starting from pre-cancerous cell changes that can be detected early.

The good news? Prevention works.
• HPV vaccination protects against the most dangerous strains
• Regular screening (Pap smear or HPV test) helps detect changes before cancer develops

Early detection doesn’t just improve outcomes.......it saves lives.

Let’s normalize conversations around women’s health and encourage proactive care.
Your health matters. Your life matters.

The wrapping paper has been torn away, and the physical gifts have been opened. But today, on Boxing Day, we want to focus on the gifts that can't be bought in a store.

At Jacaranda Cancer Centre, we believe the most precious presents are hope, resilience and the promise of a healthier tomorrow. As our image says, we are dedicated to helping our patients "Unwrap a Future of Healing."

Each one of those blue boxes represents a layer of our care from advanced medical treatment and emotional support to the strength of our community standing beside you. This season, let's extend the spirit of giving beyond material things and offer the gifts of compassion and understanding to those on a health journey.

Let's keep the spirit of hope alive as we head into the new year.

Beyond the material items, what is the most meaningful "gift" of health, hope, or support you have ever received or given? Share your story below! 👇

Merry Christmas from all of us at Jacaranda Cancer Centre

Christmas reminds us of the things that matter most, hope, love, family, and health.

For many, this season is filled with laughter and shared meals. For others, it’s a quieter moment of strength, faith, and resilience. And in those moments, being surrounded by care makes all the difference. 🤍

This year, we are grateful for every patient who trusted us, every family who stood strong, and every story that reminded us why compassionate care matters. Your courage inspires us daily, and it is our honour to walk this journey with you, today and always.

As you celebrate, may your heart be light, your body strengthened, and your home filled with peace.

The decorations are up, the jollof is preparation, and everyone around you is smiling. But inside? You feel like your battery is blinking red.

We love the holiday season in Nigeria. The community, the celebrations, the food, it’s wonderful. But let’s be honest, the pressure to make everything "perfect" is exhausting. We often run ourselves ragged taking care of everyone else, leaving nothing in the tank for ourselves.

At Jacaranda Cancer Centre, we know that stress directly impacts your physical health. You cannot pour from an empty cup. Consider this post your official permission slip to pause. 🛑

It’s not selfish; it’s essential maintenance. Whether it’s hiding in the bedroom for 5 minutes of deep breathing or politely declining that third party invitation of the week, protect your energy.

Every story we witness reminds us why we do what we do.

Behind every check-up, every treatment, every quiet moment of care, there is strength, strength from patients, courage from survivors, and unwavering support from families who never stop believing. This year has shown us that healing is not just medical; it is emotional, communal, and deeply human.

As we close this chapter and look ahead, we carry immense gratitude for every person who trusted us with their journey. Your resilience fuels our purpose. Your hope inspires our work. And together, we step into the new year with renewed commitment to care, compassion, and progress.

Here’s to health, healing, and a hopeful year ahead.
