*FMC Abeokuta Launches Cancer Access Partnership to Ease Patient Financial Burden*
The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Abeokuta, in collaboration with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), has launched a pivotal program aimed at revolutionizing cancer care across the nation.
The initiative, titled "Implementation of the Cancer Access Partnership (CAP)," was unveiled at a sensitization program held at the hospital.
Speaking on behalf of the Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa Olomu, the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. A.S Adediran, emphasized the significance of this intervention, lauding it as a critical step towards alleviating the financial strain on cancer patients, particularly in accessing essential medications.
"This program is a welcome relief, as it will substantially reduce the cost of procuring cancer drugs," Dr. Adediran noted.
Miss Aisha Ndamusa, a facilitator underscored the transformative potential of the CAP initiative. "The grim narrative of cancer patients succumbing to this disease will change with this implementation," she asserted confidently.
Ndamusa posited that the program not only guarantees a 50% reduction in the cost of chemotherapy drugs but also ensures streamlined access to treatment for all CAP-enrolled patients.
Additionally, the program will extend screening services to further enhance patient care.
Dr. Alabi Babatunde, Head of the Department of Radiation and Clinical Oncology, announced that the program is set to commence this month, ensuring that cancer patients can access care regardless of their location.
Adding to the discourse, Mr. Joseph Odion from EMGE Resources LTD stressed the seamless integration of patients into the digital system, which will facilitate easier access to care across all participating centers.
Meanwhile, the meeting was informed about the commencement of operation at the Cancer Registry in the Centre.
The event was well attended by members of the Hospital Management Committee and various clinical staff, all of whom expressed optimism about the positive impact this initiative will have on cancer care in Nigeria.
