Egbe (Part One)
All human beings have their mates in heaven. Those who have no counterparts in heaven cannot live on earth. Nevertheless, some people while in heaven are more active in their sets of celestial partners than others. These people are the ones who assumed positions of responsibility in their groups.
These are the people known as Elegbe. They were leaders in heaven and came to earth to do the same. They are the engines of society.
Egbe is generally a spiritual entity that supports its members, protects them, gives them children, wealth, health etc. Many Elegbe or Alaraagbo children assume leadership positions because they were leaders of their group, while they were in heaven before they were born.
The Egbe are made up of living spiritual entities and these entities believe in people who keep their promises. To them if you make a promise you must keep it.
Many make promises in heaven, but eventually they may find it difficult to fulfill such promises on earth due to one reason or another. Your Egbe, however, will insist that the promises you made must be fulfilled..
They even make these people go through a series of traumatic experiences until they fulfill such promises or until all necessary atonements are made through performing rituals as a way to appease them.
Notwithstanding what was said, it should be borne in mind that Elegbe, Alaraagbo, Abiku or Emere are not Irunmole or Orisa in the strictest sense of the word. They are rather a congregation of gifted spiritualities both young and advanced adults. Feeding Egbe is feeding these groups, either for support, protection or atonement for a transgression.
