I was honoured this weekend to represent His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR at the book unveiling and send-forth in Abidjan for Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina as he completed his tenure as President of the African Development Bank.

The celebration, centred on Akinwumi A. Adesina: The Man, His Mandate, Mission and Message, was more than a ceremony. It was a tribute to a decade of courageous, people-centred leadership that helped millions across our continent. Through the High 5 agenda, Dr Adesina championed light and power for our communities, food security, industrial growth, regional integration, and a better quality of life for Africans. He mobilised innovative finance, including landmark social bonds, backed Africa through the pandemic, and accelerated programmes that boost food production and unlock our continent’s potential.

As a Nigerian, I am proud. As an African, I am inspired. Thank you, for proving what vision, hard work and integrity can achieve. Your journey of service continues, and Africa still needs your voice and wisdom.

On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the good people of Nigeria, congratulations Dr Akinwumi Adesina. May this new chapter shine even brighter.

From the football pitch to the basketball court, our Nigerian sports women just keep making history.

Huge congratulations to on clinching their 5th consecutive and 7th AfroBasket title! 🏀🇳🇬

Just a week ago, our indomitable Super Falcons lifted Nigeria to new heights—winning their 10th WAFCON crown in a dramatic comeback over Morocco.

To both squads: thank you for the inspiration. You reflect the Nigerian spirit of grit, unity, and excellence—on every stage. Our young girls are watching, learning, dreaming.

As women in leadership, finance, innovation and sport, you show the power of ambition realised.

Nigeria celebrates you, and your victories show the world: when Nigerian women rise, nations rise with us. 🇳🇬

I was honoured to be part of Nigeria’s delegation in Rabat tonight as our Super Falcons came from two goals down to win 3-2 in a thrilling final!! This triumph belongs to a team that never stopped believing, to the coaching crew, the NFF, and to millions at home and across the diaspora who kept faith.
Thank you to Morocco and CAF for hosting a superb tournament. Nigeria celebrates our champions and their record tenth continental crown. See you back home. 🇳🇬💚

Today in Malabo I presented the joint F15–Scale of Assessment report to the AU Executive Council on behalf of our Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun. Seventy-three per cent of this year’s regular budget is already in, thirty member states are fully up-to-date and arrears have dropped by almost fifteen million dollars. These numbers prove that when we pay on time we unlock real bargaining power for Africa. I urged colleagues to clear the remaining balances so that we can fund Agenda 2063 from African resources first, partner funds second. Nigeria will keep leading by example.

Today at the 5th Annual Assembly of ANDFI Nigeria, I delivered a keynote on “Deepening Development Impact & Inclusive Financing.”

We must move from rhetoric to results.

From women-led businesses to rural infrastructure, from blended finance to fintech for informal workers — Nigeria’s DFIs must be catalytic, innovative, and inclusive.

The remains committed to supporting Development Finance Institutions to:
• Scale impact
• Democratise access
• Mobilise private capital
• Reach the excluded

Together, let’s ensure every naira transforms lives.

Today, I had the honour of representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance.

The President reaffirmed our administration’s firm commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. Funds saved from fuel subsidy removal are being redirected to infrastructure, social protection, and economic reform.

We are digitising public finance systems - from IPPIS to GIFMIS to the Open Treasury Portal - to ensure every naira is traceable and every public officer accountable.

As Mr. President rightly said:
“Fiscal governance is the lifeblood of national development.”
This conference marks another step towards the Nigeria we are building – where transparency is not an aspiration, but the norm.

🇳🇬🤝🏾🇺🇳 This past week at the United Nations in New York was a deeply productive one.

I had the honour of representing Nigeria at the 2025 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development and the 4th PrepCom for . Our message was clear: Africa deserves a fairer voice in global financial architecture.

I advocated for:
🔹 Sovereign debt workout mechanisms that prioritise development over austerity
🔹 Reforms in tax transparency & tackling illicit financial flows
🔹 Expanded concessional financing to match domestic reforms

Engaging with partners like Sweden 🇸🇪 and Norway 🇳🇴, and holding valuable dialogue with our very own DSG Amina Mohammed 🇺🇳, we found common cause in advancing sustainable and inclusive development.

I’m especially proud of Nigeria’s co-sponsorship of the side event on illicit financial flows – a firm step towards reclaiming stolen wealth and financing our development priorities.

Our work continues ahead of FFD4 in Seville this July. Nigeria will remain vocal, visible, and visionary.

Today at the UN HQ, I addressed key stakeholders on "Safeguarding Sustainable Development Finance by Addressing Illicit Financial Flows and Fighting Financial Crime" ahead of the FfD4 conference in Seville.

Africa loses an estimated $88.6 billion annually to illicit financial flows, with Nigeria accounting for approximately 20% of these losses. These outflows severely undermine our ability to provide essential infrastructure and services to our citizens.

Nigeria remains committed to multilateral cooperation through our championing of the Common African Position on Asset Recovery (CAPAR) and supporting the UN Framework on international tax cooperation. Domestically, our Presidential Interagency Commission on IFFs is working to strengthen detection and recovery of illicit assets.

True progress requires equity in global financial systems. We must enhance beneficial ownership transparency and improve information sharing across borders to make asset recovery more efficient.

Together, we can build better systems that ensure resources remain where they belong - financing sustainable development for our citizens.

I was honoured to deliver keynote remarks at the U.S.-Nigeria Council’s high-level dinner in Washington, D.C., alongside distinguished guests including Mr. Massad Boulos, President Trump’s Senior Adviser on Africa and Mr. Will Stevens, US Deputy Assistant Secretary on West Africa.

In my remarks, I emphasised the urgent need for the United States to strengthen its engagement with Africa — and with Nigeria in particular — as we work together to deepen trade, investment, and economic ties.

As we look ahead to “Doubling Down on US-Nigeria Ties in 2025 and Beyond,” we remain committed to forging partnerships that drive growth, create opportunity, and unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s young and dynamic population.

My sincere thanks to Ambassador (ret.) Terence McCulley and the US-Nigeria Council for the invitation and their ongoing dedication to advancing our shared priorities.
