Blood tests can check for abnormalities that may be linked to kidney cancer, such as anemia (low red blood cell count) or elevated levels of certain enzymes or substances that could suggest the cancer has spread.
What Blood Tests Can Indicate:
General Health:
Blood tests, like a complete blood count (CBC) can provide information about a person's overall health, including kidney function and liver function.
Anemia:
Kidney cancer can cause anemia (low red blood cell count) due to various factors, including the cancer's impact on erythropoietin production.
Other Blood Cell Abnormalities:
Kidney cancer can sometimes lead to an increase in red blood cells or elevated platelet levels, which are also detectable through CBC.
Elevated Liver Enzymes:
If kidney cancer has spread to the liver, it may cause an increase in liver enzymes in the blood.
