Let's Talk Surrogacy: Separating Fact from Fiction in Nigeria πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

Let's address some common myths and shed light on the truth:
❌ Myth 1: Surrogacy is illegal in Nigeria.
βœ… Fact: While there isn't a specific comprehensive law, surrogacy is not prohibited and can be conducted ethically under existing contract laws, ensuring clear agreements and protection for all parties. We operate with the highest standards of legal and ethical practice.
❌ Myth 2: Surrogates are exploited or "rented."

It's a journey of partnership and mutual respect, not exploitation. Our surrogates are cherished and fully supported every step of the way.
❌ Myth 3: Surrogates have no say in the process.
βœ… Fact: Our surrogates are active partners in the journey. They undergo thorough screening, receive comprehensive counseling, and their well-being is our top priority. We ensure they are fully informed and comfortable with every decision.

Understanding Female Factor Infertility: What You Need to Know

As Infertility Awareness Month continues, today we're focusing on Female Factor Infertility. While infertility affects both partners, approximately one-third of cases are attributed solely to female factors.
Understanding the common causes can help individuals know when to seek help.

Here are some key areas:

Ovulation Disorders: Issues with releasing eggs regularly, often due to conditions like Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS), hormonal imbalances, or premature ovarian insufficiency.

Blocked Fallopian Tubes: Tubes damaged or blocked (e.g., from endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or past infections) can prevent s***m from reaching the egg, or the embryo from reaching the uterus.

Endometriosis: When uterine-lining-like tissue grows outside the uterus, it can affect ovarian and fallopian tube function.

Uterine Abnormalities: Issues with the shape or structure of the uterus, or conditions like fibroids or polyps, can impact implantation or carrying a pregnancy to term.

The good news is that for many of these challenges, Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) offer effective solutions. For instance, ovulation induction, IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), or in some cases, gestational surrogacy, can bypass or address these specific barriers, bringing the dream of parenthood closer.

Learning about these factors is a powerful step towards understanding. If you or a loved one are navigating these concerns, remember you're not alone.
Have you heard of any of these conditions before? Share your thoughts.

BUSTING MYTHS: WHAT INFERTILITY ISN'T.

Today, let's tackle something crucial: the many myths and misconceptions surrounding infertility. These false beliefs can add unnecessary stress and shame to an already challenging journey.

Here are a few common myths we hear, and the truth behind them:

MYTH: "Infertility is always a woman's issue."
FACT: Infertility affects men and women almost equally. Male factor infertility accounts for roughly 40-50% of cases! It truly takes two.

MYTH: "If you just relax, you'll get pregnant."
FACT: While stress management is important for overall well-being, stress does NOT cause infertility. It's a medical condition requiring medical solutions.

MYTH: "People who struggle with infertility just aren't trying hard enough."

FACT: Infertility is a complex medical condition, not a lack of effort. Those facing it are often doing everything they can and more.

Understanding the facts is empowering. It highlights why professional diagnosis and advanced treatments like Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) are so vital – they address the real medical complexities, not old wives' tales.

What's the most surprising myth you've heard about infertility? Share it in the comments, and let's replace misinformation with facts.

LET TALK ABOUT INFERTILITY!

It's Infertility Awareness Month 2025! At Surrogacy Africa, we're dedicated to shedding light on this deeply personal journey.

What is infertility? It's simply the inability to conceive after a year of unprotected in*******se (or six months if you're over 35). It's a medical condition, not a personal failing, and it affects millions globally.
We know this diagnosis can bring a swirl of emotions. But here's the crucial part: there is hope.

Modern medical advancements, including Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), offer incredible pathways to parenthood.
This month, we'll explore these options and share stories of resilience. Join us in breaking the silence and spreading understanding.

Raw facts about Egg donation!

Q: What exactly is egg donation?
A: Egg donation is a process where a healthy woman (the donor) voluntarily provides her eggs to help another individual or couple (the recipients) conceive a child through assisted reproductive technology like IVF.
Q: Will donating my eggs make me infertile in the future? Will my "good" eggs be taken?
A: Absolutely not! Women are born with a vast reserve of eggs – hundreds of thousands, in fact. In a typical monthly cycle, a woman naturally can lose hundreds immature eggs, with usually only one maturing and being released (ovulation). During egg donation, fertility medications gently encourage many of these naturally occurring immature eggs to mature at the same time. Instead of losing them that month, these mature eggs are gently retrieved. This process doesn't deplete your future egg supply or impact your ability to conceive naturally later on.

Q: Is egg donation painful?
A: The egg retrieval procedure is a minimally invasive process, it doesn't involve stitches. You'll be sedated, so you won't feel any pain during it. Some women may experience mild cramping or bloating afterwards, similar to period discomfort, which usually subsides within a day or two.
Q: How much time commitment is involved?
A: The entire process typically spans for 2 weeks, involving initial consultations, medical screenings, a period of self-administered fertility medication injections (which we'll fully guide you through!), and the short egg retrieval procedure.
Q: What are the requirements to become an egg donor with Surrogacy Africa?
A: Generally, donors are healthy women.
AA Genotype
Age 21 and 25(this can vary slightly).
Non-smokers.
Have a healthy BMI.
You'll also undergo medical and psychological screenings to ensure you're a good candidate and fully understand the process.
Q: What are the benefits of being an egg donor?
A: Beyond the profound fulfillment of helping someone achieve their dream of parenthood, donors in our program receive financial compensation to acknowledge their time, effort, and commitment. This can be a meaningful way to contribute while also benefiting personally.
