According to the 2024 World Malaria Report, Nigeria continues to bear the highest global burden of malaria, accounting for 25.9% of all estimated malaria cases worldwide, and 30.9% of global malaria deaths. In response, innovative efforts are underway to eliminate this deadly disease.
One of such initiative is the sub-national malaria program being implemented in Kaduna and Kano States, designed to tackle barriers to malaria treatment and prevention at the community level. To support this, NOI Polls conducted a community survey to assess how well households understand malaria, their access to treatment, and identify promising approaches to eliminate malaria at both the Local Government Area (LGA) and state levels.
The second round of this four-round survey began in August, utilisiing Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technology for accuracy and efficiency. As part of the process, key engagements were held with state stakeholders, including the State Malaria Elimination Program Team, the State Bureau of Statistics, and the Director of Public Health in both Kaduna and Kano States. These collaborations strengthen partnerships, enhance technical support, and ensure transparency through their participation as independent observers during the survey.
