What are ge***al warts?
Ge***al warts are a type of s*xually transmitted infection (STI) that causes warts (small bumps or growths) to form in and around your ge***als and re**um. Certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) cause ge***al warts. While thereβs no cure for HPV itself, you can receive treatment for ge***al warts. You can give ge***al warts to other people through va**nal, a**l or oral s*x.
Where can you get ge***al warts?
Ge***al warts can infect your:
Groin area.
A**s.
Re**um.
P***s and sc***um.
Va**na (including inside of your va**na), v***a, va**nal lips (l***a minora and l***a majora) and cervix.
Lips, mouth, tongue or throat.
Ge***al warts spread through:
In*******se, including a**l, va**nal-penile and va**nal-va**nal.
Ge***al touching (skin-to-skin contact without ej*******on).
Giving oral s*x to someone who has HPV or ge***al warts.
Receiving oral s*x from someone who has HPV or who has ge***al warts on their mouth, lips or tongue.
What are the symptoms of ge***al warts?
Warts look like rough, skin-colored or whitish-grey growths on your skin. Ge***al warts often have a bumpy cauliflower look, but some are flat. Ge***al warts arenβt usually painful. Occasionally, they cause:
Mild bleeding.
Burning sensation.
Discomfort.
Ge***al itching or irritation.
tests to diagnose ge***al warts:
Pelvic exam: You may get a Pap test as part of a pelvic exam to check for cervical changes caused by ge***al warts. Your provider may also perform a colposcopy to examine and biopsy your va**na and cervix.
A**l exam: Your provider uses a device called an anoscope to look inside your a**s for warts.
