Splendid Outing on Marriage and Family Matters.

Our program yesterday Sunday, November 16, 2025 on "Best Ways of Parenting Children of School Age" was a huge success. The discussion was sparked by recent incidents of parents attacking teachers and threatening to close down schools, and we had calls from all over Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger and other states.

Our callers, including parents, teachers, and educators, shared valuable insights on how to parent children effectively. Key takeaways included:

- Moral training starts at home
- Teachers should focus on moral instruction and minimize excessive discipline
- Parents should work together with teachers to instill good values in children
- Parents should take time to know their wards
- schools should train and retrain staff on child psychology, emotional intelligence, and angry management
- parents should collaborate with teachers to do the needful instead of fight them

It was a lovely outing that benefited everyone involved. We're grateful for the opportunity to serve and educate our audience.

Did you follow the program on Sunday?
Did you learn that active listening is the key to understanding and understanding is the key to communication and communication is an integral aspect of our relationships/marriages?
Well we talked about ‘how to improve communication in relations/marriages’ and our guest Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu, a marriage counselor and relationship expert helped us learn a lot.
You can communicate vebally,
through thoughts, sign languages amidst others but the best way to communicate, is that which your partner understands. To improve communication you must be an active listener amd can ask for clarification where necessary. This is the key to great communication.

It was an amazing time on Marriage and Family Matters with Mr. Innocent Arah who provided us with insights on the topic: 'Anger Management in Marriage.'
Anger is an emotional reaction or response to actions or inactions that one could find irritating or uncomfortable.
Anger in its self isn't bad, but our response to it is what could make us to sin and destructive.
Anger is inseparable with human existence, however, there are practical ways to deal with it.
Before we talk about the ways to deal with it, let's talk about some of the TRIGGERS.
1. Financial stress
2. Beliefs and Values
3. Miscommunication/Misunderstanding
4. Unstable Mental Health to mention but a few.

Consequently, Mr. Innocent Arah provided the following as therapy to anger management:

1. Pause and think before you react
2. Do a reverse count either from 20-1 or Z-A at the moment of your anger
3. Take a brief walk out of the tensed environment
4. Visit a therapist that could help you develop self control etc

Summarily, anger is a 'can't do without ' in our routinely activities because of our individual differences, perceptions, lifestyles, values and beliefs and environment. However, we can develop self control, self restrain and create more empathy about issues and situations surrounding our dealings with one another.

About today in the studio; Managing Conflict between Wife and mother-in-law or sister-in-law.
Many marriages suffer as a result of this issue that can be managed if undestandig, love and friend are the foundation.
A married person must be cautious, treat matters wisely and not be quick to pass judgment.
Conflict between these parties often begin from a place of assumption, insecurities, and especially lack of boundaries.
Set boundaries, make effective conversations, listen keenly, do strategic planning and proper implementation. Boundaries set, will create limitations and help the couple deal with this issue. The couple must plan together, work, implement and stand by each other to manage this arising conflict.

Managing Negative TRIGGERS.(cont’d)
Triggers in relationships can be complex but manageable if those involved are willing to put in the work.
1. Identify what triggers your spouse e.g traumatic experiences, discouraging words etc. Reflect on how it triggers you/them.
2. Communicate: Talk about it. Share how you feel or think your partner should feel about your triggers. Also, acknowledge and validate each other's feelings.
3. Create a coping strategy: Device means to manage triggers such as: walking away, doing something different/together, take a break or relax your mind by taking heavy breaths.
4. Build understanding: Understand the cause of each trigger. Create an environment for partners to feel comfortable discussing triggers and emotions.
5. Seek support: Attend couples therapy/counseling to work through triggers and build a stronger relationship.
Partners should work together, show empathy, understanding, and self-awareness else they may end up in a situation as bad as separation. (See next post for positive triggers
