For the past two weeks in Nigeria, we have been bombarded with alot of heart-wrenching news. From the kidnapping of school girls in Kebbi, the attack in a church in Kwara while people were worshipping, kidnapping of primary and secondary school students in Niger State to increased cases of people being victims of one chance and many more.

It is really scary, heartbreaking and draining. 😒πŸ˜₯πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

We empathise and sympathise with the victims and their family members as we pray for their safe return πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ€²πŸ€²πŸ€²πŸ€²

While we implore us to stay safe and take necessary precautions, remember it is okay to take a break from the internet and social media from reading about these sad occurrences in order to protect our mental health. This message is very important for our adolescents and young people so that they don't development anxiety, panic attacks or depression πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί.

May peace reign in Nigeria πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š

And do you know why we are super excited?

Because she is the first Adolescent Health Champion (AHC) of the Centre for Adolescent Health and Social Development. She became our first AHC in 2020 when we were still Adolescent Health Hub and she was just 17 years.

Before she became our AHC, she participated in our first Facebook live session to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration in 2020 (see slide 4) and also was part of our Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration campaign video tagged 'It's Time for Action also in 2020 (see slide 7).

In September 2020, when we approached her to be our first ever AHC, she accepted willingly (see slides 5, 6 and 8)

and in her words ''I decided to join The adolescent health hub because I got inspired by what they do
and what they stand for. To educate both young and old too on so many things about being a teenager
and a young adult. I'm honored, privileged and happy to be a part of this great family ”

Her graduation from the University is a proud moment for us and indeed she is a champion for Adolescents and a true inspiration for adolescents and young people.

We wish her the very best as she enters a new phase of her life and career. You will always remain our heroine and champion πŸ† πŸ₯‡ πŸ… ❀️

Keep winning girl πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

WHY ADOLESCENT HEALTH?

You might be wondering why adolescents or the need for health education?

Adolescence is a period when future determinants of health are laid down; it is also the period when they engage in risky behaviour that affects their adult life because they are mostly not equipped with sufficient knowledge needed to navigate this turbulent period.

Therefore, the essence of the Adolescent Health Hub (AHH) is to deliver the right information on essential health topics on adolescent health for adolescents and their caregivers. When fully armed with the correct information, these group (adolescents) of people can make healthy life choices that will improve their health outcomes, make the transition into an adult an easy one and also enhance the attainment of their full life potential while securing the lives of generations unborn.
