As the world observes World Malaria Day 2025 under the theme “Malaria ends with us: reinvest, reimagine, reignite”, the call to action is urgent. Africa must lead the charge against malaria through renewed investment, bold innovation, and revitalised political will.

WHO STANDARD

World Malaria Day: Ending Malaria for Good

World Malaria Day, observed every year on April 25, is an international day established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to recognize global efforts to control and ultimately eradicate malaria. It serves as a powerful reminder of the global burden of malaria and the ongoing need for investment, innovation, and sustained political commitment.

Theme for 2025:

The theme for this year is "Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria: Innovation, Investment, Implementation", emphasizing the urgent need to scale up effective interventions, strengthen health systems, and ensure equitable access to prevention and treatment—especially in vulnerable communities.

Why Malaria Matters:

Malaria remains one of the world’s deadliest diseases, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. It is caused by Plasmodium parasites, transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Although preventable and treatable, malaria still causes over 600,000 deaths annually, with young children and pregnant women being the most affected.

Global Progress and Challenges:

Significant strides have been made in reducing malaria cases and deaths through the use of insecticide-treated nets, indoor residual spraying, rapid diagnostic testing, and antimalarial medications. However, challenges such as insecticide and drug resistance, climate change, conflict zones, and inadequate health infrastructure continue to threaten progress.

Call to Action:

World Malaria Day calls on governments, researchers, healthcare workers, communities, and international organizations to unite and:

Increase funding for malaria research and programs.

Promote community engagement and health education.

Improve access to quality healthcare and life-saving tools.

Support innovation, including new vaccines and diagnostics.

Conclusion:

Ending malaria is not just a health priority—it's a moral and economic imperative. Together, through concerted global action, we can turn the vision of a malaria-free world into reality

"Eid Mubarak! May this special day bring you joy, peace, and blessings. I pray that God grants our nation prosperity and relief from economic hardship. May He guide our leaders and citizens alike to work towards a brighter future for all. Amin."
Eid Mubaraq 🕌📿🤲🏽🙏

Dear Abajians, I felicitate with you all, particularly the Muslim faithful, on the celebration of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.

I congratulate our Muslim brothers and sisters who are currently in Saudi Arabia to participate in the rites of the Hajj.

From the outset, I want to use this opportunity to thank all the Abajians, and entire FCT well-wishers that relentlessly prayed for me to succeed and continued to extend their goodwill and support to me at any given point in time, I really appreciate you all.

Indeed your fervent and sincere prayers, which cut across religion, political and ethnic divides, has keep me going and also energised me to re-dedicate myself and this administration to the task of getting Abaji working again.

On the joyous occasion of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir celebration, I appeal to all Abajians, FCT and the entire Nigerians to rise against the odds, keep our prejudices aside and strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity to keep our country together.

For Muslims all over the world, this celebration is to commemorate the trials and triumph of Prophet (Abraham) Ibrahim.

As we celebrate, I sincerely believe that our nation can make rapid progress on all fronts if we re-enact the exemplary virtues, typified by Prophet (Abraham) Ibrahim, through his sacrifice, patience, steadfastness, generosity and obedience to Allah’s command and constituted authority.

We must learn to see ourselves as brothers and sisters from the same heritage, who must come to terms with the African proverb that ‘‘a family tie is like a tree, it can bend but it cannot break.

Once again, I assure you that this administration, which has made the security, education and health its top priority, will not rest on its oars until we see the Abaji of our dream, InshaAllah.

Thank You, Best Regards

I wish everyone happy Sallah celebrations.
